Raipur: Preparations to make the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly completely digital and paperless have gained momentum. The goal is to implement a digital system in the new Assembly building in Nawa Raipur before the upcoming budget session. At the initiative of Assembly Speaker Dr. Raman Singh, efforts are underway to integrate modern technology into the proceedings of the House. As part of this, tablets and other digital devices will be installed on the desks of the legislators, providing them with essential information related to the House.
According to Assembly Secretary Dinesh Sharma, the digitization process is targeted for completion within the next three months. A proposal regarding the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA) has already been submitted. The responsibility for the technical implementation of the project has been entrusted to the Chhattisgarh Infotech Promotion Society (CHiPS).
Tablets to provide access to Q&A, budget, and legislative documents
Once the digital system is in place, legislators will be able to access the daily agenda, answers to starred and unstarred questions, legislative bills, budget-related documents, and other crucial information on their tablets. This will facilitate easier access to necessary documents during the proceedings of the House. Furthermore, it will reduce costs associated with printing paper and save time.
Modernizing the House through NeVA
Work is underway to implement NeVA in the Legislative Assembly as part of the Central Government’s ‘One Nation, One Legislative Platform’ initiative. An agreement has been signed in this regard between the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, the State Government, and the Assembly Secretariat. Instructions have been issued to ensure the project is completed within the stipulated timeframe.
Mobile app to provide information to the general public
The official mobile app of the Legislative Assembly is also being updated. The plan is to use this platform to provide citizens with access to the daily agenda, questions and answers, budget speeches, and live proceedings of the House. This will make it easier for the public to stay informed about the Assembly’s activities and will enhance transparency in its operations. New Building Constructed at a Cost of Rs 324 Crore
A new Legislative Assembly building has been constructed in Sector-19 of Naya Raipur at a cost of approximately Rs 324 crore. It is being developed as a modern ‘e-Sadan’ (e-Legislative House). Additional work is currently underway, including landscaping, the creation of expansive gardens, a banquet area, and the installation of the national emblem—the Ashoka Pillar.
The implementation of a digital system is expected to bring about a significant transformation in the functioning of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly. If the project is completed on schedule, legislators will be able to participate in the proceedings of the House using tablets, rather than relying on paper-based documents.
