Delhi Building Collapse: So far six people have died due to the collapse of a multi-storey building in Satya Niketan, South Delhi. Officials said the body of one more person was pulled from the debris during the overnight operation. At present, 11 people have been rescued, while many others are feared trapped. After the building collapse in Satya Niketan, relief and rescue operations continued throughout the night. Even on Monday morning, teams of Delhi Police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Fire Service and Delhi Disaster Management Authority are engaged in the operation. The work of removing debris is also going on.
Delhi Building Collapse: Six people have died so far following the collapse of a multi-story building in South Delhi’s Satya Niketan. Officials reported that the body of another person was recovered from the debris during the overnight operation. So far, 11 people have been rescued, while several others are feared trapped. Relief and rescue operations continued through the night following the collapse. Teams from the Delhi Police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Fire Service, and Delhi Disaster Management Authority are actively engaged in the operation this Monday morning as well. Debris removal work is also underway.
Officials stated that several people—mostly students—are feared trapped in the rubble, and efforts to rescue them safely are ongoing. The incident occurred around 1:30 PM on Sunday while repair work was being carried out in the basement. Officials also speculated that heavy rain might have contributed to the incident. The building, estimated to be 40–50 years old, comprised a basement and five upper floors. It was being used as a paying guest (PG) accommodation for students, many of whom were studying at Delhi University’s South Campus. Police reported that the premises had rooms to accommodate approximately 40 people.
Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta ordered a magisterial inquiry into the building collapse. After inspecting the site, she directed officials to conduct a detailed investigation into the cause of the collapse and ordered the registration of an FIR against the building’s owner. She stated that strict action would be taken against those found guilty, in accordance with the law. After assessing the situation at the site, Rekha Gupta said, “Those found responsible for this serious incident will be held fully accountable and dealt with under stringent legal provisions.” According to the police, an FIR has been registered at the South Campus Police Station against the alleged owner, Hariram, and others. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-West) Amit Goyal confirmed the registration of the case.
