Delhi SIR: The Election Commission has issued a major update regarding the ongoing intensive revision campaign for the electoral roll—known as Delhi SIR—in the national capital. The schedule for this intensive revision campaign in Delhi has been revised once again. According to the Election Commission, the final electoral roll will now be published on November 4 instead of October 27. Voters are advised to check the draft roll after its publication on August 31 and verify their names and details. On Wednesday, the Election Commission of India modified the schedule for the ‘Special Intensive Revision’ (SIR) of the electoral roll in Delhi. Officials stated that key stages of the process have been postponed by a week, and the publication of the final electoral roll has been delayed by eight days. The Chief Electoral Office has advised voters to review the draft roll once it is published on August 31 and confirm their particulars.
According to a statement from the Chief Electoral Officer, the period for filing claims and objections has been revised to run from August 31 to September 30. The disposal of claims and objections, originally scheduled for August 24 to October 22, will now take place between August 31 and October 29. Under the revised schedule, the final electoral roll will be published on November 4 instead of October 27. An official statement issued by the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer’s office on Wednesday explained that the dates were changed because the work of rationalizing polling stations has not yet been completed. This process aims to ensure that no single polling station caters to more than 1,200 voters. The Chief Electoral Office stated that voters who have submitted their enumeration forms will be able to check for their names in the draft electoral roll once it is published on August 31. The draft list will also be uploaded to the Delhi Chief Electoral Office’s website.
Third Change to the SIR Schedule
This marks the third time that election officials have altered the SIR schedule. The deadline for the rationalization of polling stations has been extended to August 24. Under the new schedule, the task of rationalizing and reorganizing polling stations—originally slated for completion by August 17—will now be concluded by August 24. Similarly, the publication of the draft voter list will now take place on August 31 instead of August 24.
Over 1.45 Crore Voters in Delhi
