New Delhi: The tourist who got into an argument with security personnel at a checkpoint in Ladakh has now apologized to the Indian Army soldiers. A video of the incident had gone viral on social media a few days ago. In the video, she was seen arguing with security personnel over traffic being halted and identifying herself as part of ‘Gen Z’. According to reports, the woman expressed regret for her behavior and apologized directly to the Army soldiers. She said, “Please forgive me, my soldier brothers.” She admitted that what happened at the checkpoint was her fault and expressed remorse.
‘We sleep safely because of you’
While apologizing, the tourist also praised the role of Indian Army soldiers. She acknowledged that Army soldiers are deployed at the nation’s borders to ensure the safety and peaceful sleep of the country’s citizens. The woman apologized to the Indian Army and the J&K Army, asking the soldiers to forgive her, considering her “their younger sister.” She stated that she had realized her mistake quite quickly.
What was the entire dispute about?
The incident took place at the Minimarg checkpoint in Ladakh. In the viral video, the tourist appeared agitated over traffic being held up for several hours. She questioned why tourists were being detained for such a long time. In the video, she remarked, “We are Gen Z and we aren’t going to tolerate this kind of nonsense.” She went on to question the restrictions and the traffic stoppage, urging other tourists to leave the area. The dispute escalated further when she allegedly said:
“Everyone gets paid from our taxes; have they become superior to us now? Either we all go, or no one goes.”
These comments sparked significant outrage on social media. Many people questioned the manner in which she spoke to the soldiers.
Omar Abdullah had expressed displeasure
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and several former military officers had also reacted to this controversy. Omar Abdullah had taken a dig at the frequent use of the term ‘Gen Z’, remarking that this attitude is becoming akin to the old ‘do you know who my father is’ style of entitlement. However, the tourist has now clearly stated that she regrets her behavior and has appealed to the security personnel to forgive her, asking them to view her as a younger sister.
