Rajasthan Food Safety New Guidelines: New food safety guidelines have been implemented in the Didwana-Kuchaman district to prevent foodborne illnesses and food poisoning during weddings, as well as social, religious, cultural, and other large-scale events. Under the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) issued by the Commissionerate of Food Safety and Drug Control, the preparation and serving of food at mass feasts or large events without a valid FSSAI license or registration is now prohibited.
Mandatory FSSAI License
Babulal Chaudhary, the Food Safety Officer for Didwana-Kuchaman district, stated that under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, it is mandatory for all confectioners (halwais), caterers, and food service providers to possess a valid FSSAI license or registration. The objective is to ensure the provision of pure, safe, and hygienic food to people at large events and to prevent foodborne illnesses.
He has appealed to all confectioners, caterers, and vendors preparing food in large quantities at public venues in the district to obtain the necessary license as soon as possible in accordance with the rules and to strictly adhere to the government-issued guidelines.
Instructions to Conduct Surveys
Ratan Kumar, the Additional District Collector of Didwana, stated that instructions have been issued to the district’s food safety officers to conduct surveys of all confectioners and caterers in their respective areas. Information regarding those operating without a license will be gathered, and they will be encouraged to obtain one. However, if anyone is found conducting a food business without a license or in violation of the guidelines, legal action will be taken against them as per the rules.
Written Notification Required from Organizers
According to the new guidelines, the organizer or caterer of a mass feast or large event must provide written notification to the Food Safety Officer prior to the event. This notification must include details such as the date, time, and venue of the event, the number of guests, the location where the food is being prepared, and the license number of the confectioner or caterer. Food Samples to be Collected
Operators of marriage gardens, banquet halls, hotels, and farmhouses must ensure that only valid FSSAI-licensed confectioners and caterers are permitted to operate during events held at their venues. They are also required to maintain comprehensive records of these engagements. Food Safety Officers will conduct risk-based monitoring of large events. Food samples will be collected as necessary, and on-site hygiene standards will be verified.
Action Against Rule Violations
Food Safety Officer Babulal Chaudhary stated that the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) places special emphasis on personal hygiene, clean drinking water, safe food storage, temperature control, hygienic food preparation practices, and waste management. Strict action will be taken under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act against food business operators who violate these regulations.
He added that all confectioners, caterers, and related service providers in the district are being informed about the new SOP, and efforts are underway to ensure its effective implementation.
