Hailing from the small village of Barwa in Haryana, Jaya Sharma has journeyed to the Indian Police Service (IPS) through sheer hard work and dedication. A member of Generation Z, Jaya Sharma first became a DSP in the Haryana Police and subsequently cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination to become an IPS officer of the 2024 batch.
Perseverance Despite Setbacks
Jaya Sharma’s story is particularly inspiring for young people who give up on their goals after failing an exam. Jaya did not succeed in her first attempt at the UPSC exam; however, instead of giving up, she resumed her preparations. In her second attempt, she succeeded in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2023 and fulfilled her ambition of becoming an IPS officer.
Born in Barwa Village, Haryana (1997)
Jaya Sharma was born on April 3, 1997, in Barwa village, Haryana. Her father, Pramod Sharma, has served as a DFSC (District Food and Supplies Controller) in the Department of Food and Supplies, while her mother, Neetu Sharma, is a homemaker. The generation born between 1997 and 2012 is generally referred to as Generation Z.
Jaya completed her early education at Vidya Devi Jindal School in Hisar. She went on to graduate from a college under Delhi University and completed her post-graduation at IIT Delhi. During her academic years, she also worked on a research project with ISRO.
Secured 8th Rank in HPSC
Jaya Sharma secured the 8th rank in the Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC) examination. Following this, she was selected as a DSP in the Haryana Police. While serving in this role, she continued her preparations for the UPSC Civil Services Examination.
In the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2023, Jaya Sharma secured the 248th rank nationwide. She was subsequently allocated the Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre and became an IPS officer of the 2024 batch. Notably, at the time the UPSC results were declared, Jaya was already serving as an under-training DSP in Haryana. Jaya Sharma’s journey—from studying at IIT Delhi and securing the 8th rank in the HPSC exam to serving as a DSP in the Haryana Police and eventually becoming an IPS officer by achieving the 248th all-India rank in the UPSC exam—stands as a shining example of hard work, persistent effort, and dedication to one’s goal.
