Getting a ration card made has become easier, but scrutiny has increased! Six documents are now mandatory; learn the complete online application process.

Ration Card: While the process of obtaining a new ration card has been digitized, regulations regarding documentation and verification have been tightened. A ration card will no longer be issued based solely on an Aadhaar card or a single proof of address; applicants must submit several mandatory documents, followed by a verification process.

Which documents are required for a ration card?

You will need to have the following documents ready when applying for a new ration card:

Aadhaar card

Proof of residence

Income certificate

Birth certificate

Photograph of the house

Bank account details

Additionally, a photograph and mobile number of the applicant or the head of the family must be provided during the application process. Verification may be conducted via an OTP sent to the mobile number. Details and Aadhaar numbers of other family members must also be entered in the application.

How to apply online?

Online applications for a new ration card can be submitted via the e-District portal, Common Service Centers (CSC), or Jan Seva Kendras. It is advisable to keep scanned copies of all necessary documents ready before applying.

To apply online, you must first register and log in to the relevant portal. Next, select the option for a new ration card application and enter details regarding the head of the family, address, bank account, and income.

Subsequently, enter the names and Aadhaar numbers of other family members. After uploading the applicant’s photograph, a photo of the house, and the required documents, pay the prescribed fee and submit the form. You should retain the application receipt for future reference.

Verification after application

Once the online application is submitted, the relevant department will examine the documents. The application may be verified at the level of the Block Development Officer (BDO) or the regional Food Supply Inspector. Physical verification may also be conducted if deemed necessary.

Upon completion of the verification process, a digital ration card may be issued to the eligible applicant. The entire process may take up to 30 days.
