India-Pakistan Partition: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday (August 14) paid tribute to the people who went through inhuman suffering and pain during the partition of India. PM Modi said that this is a day to pay tribute to the courage of those who suffered the pain of partition and started their lives again. The British colonial rule divided India on this day in 1947, after which a new country was born as Pakistan.
PM Modi said, “On the occasion of Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, we are remembering those who were affected by the horrors of Partition and suffered immensely. It is also a day to pay tribute to their courage, which shows the power of human recovery. Many people affected by Partition restarted their lives and achieved immense success. Today we also reiterate our commitment to always protect the bond of unity and brotherhood in our country.”
What is Partition Horror Remembrance Day?Â
In fact, when India and Pakistan were divided in 1947, people had to suffer a lot at that time. After the partition, there were large-scale riots, due to which lakhs of people had to be displaced. Hundreds of people also lost their lives in this. To remember the people who lost their lives during the partition, Prime Minister Modi announced in 2021 that ‘Partition Horrors Memorial Day’ will be celebrated every year on 14 August.
While announcing this day, PM Modi had said that 14th August will be celebrated in memory of the struggles and sacrifices of all those who suffered the pain of Partition. He had said that the pain of Partition can never be forgotten.
Amit Shah also paid tribute to the people
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also paid tribute to the people who suffered the pain of Partition on the occasion of Partition Horrors Remembrance Day. He said, “Today on Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, I pay tribute to the millions of people who suffered inhuman suffering, lost their lives and became homeless during the most brutal episode in history. Only by remembering its history and learning from it, can a nation build its strong future and emerge as a powerful country.”
