Jasmine Lamboria: Indian boxers continue their stellar performance at the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games. Star female boxer Jasmine Lamboria secured a spot in the semi-finals by defeating an English boxer, thereby guaranteeing India’s 10th boxing medal of the Games. With this achievement, India has recorded its best-ever boxing performance in the history of the Commonwealth Games.
Jasmine Lamboria’s Impressive Victory
In the quarter-finals of the women’s 57kg category, Jasmine Lamboria faced the host nation’s Alice Glyn. A fierce contest ensued, but the Indian boxer emerged victorious via a 4-1 split decision. This win propelled Jasmine into the semi-finals and ensured she would secure at least a bronze medal. Jasmine’s Commonwealth Games campaign began directly in the quarter-finals, as she had received a bye in the opening round (Round of 16) of the women’s 57kg category. By winning her very first bout, she further bolstered India’s medal tally. Notably, Lamboria is the reigning featherweight world champion. She had previously won a bronze medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, and has now achieved the feat of winning a medal in two consecutive Commonwealth Games.
Creating History at the Commonwealth Games
Jasmine’s victory was particularly significant for India as it marked the 10th boxing medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games. Never before had India won so many boxing medals in a single edition of the Commonwealth Games. India’s previous best performance was at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, where Indian boxers won a total of nine medals. In Glasgow, Indian boxers have surpassed that record and created history. The boxers who have secured medals for India so far include Lovlina Borgohain (75 kg), Priya Ghanghas (60 kg), Preeti Pawar (54 kg), Jadumani Singh (55 kg), Sakshi Chaudhary (51 kg), Arundhati Chaudhary (70 kg), Sachin Siwach (60 kg), Ankush (80 kg), Narendra Badwal (+90 kg), and now Jasmine Lamboria (57 kg). All eyes will now be on the semi-final and final bouts, where the Indian athletes will aim to upgrade their bronze medals to gold.
