Kolkata Rape-Murder Case:Â Thousands of junior doctors are protesting in Kolkata over the rape and murder of a junior doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reached the protest stage outside the Health Department, where junior doctors are protesting amid slogans of “We want justice”. During this, CM Mamata said, “I understand your pain, that’s why I am with you. I am not worried about my position. I have also protested a lot during my student life. We are worried about your safety.

These people have been protesting for the last month demanding justice in the rape and murder case in RG Kar Hospital. Earlier on Thursday (September 12), due to the insistence of live broadcast, the meeting of the delegation of protesting doctors with Mamata could not take place. DGP Rajiv Kumar was also present with Mamata. As soon as Mamata reached there, there was an atmosphere of chaos. She requested the junior doctors to give her a chance to speak.
I demand from CBI to give death penalty to the culprits- CM Mamta
During this, CM Mamata Banerjee said, ‘I salute your movement. Because, I am also a product of the student movement. Mamata said, “I have not been able to sleep at night because you people are on the road. I have had to stay awake as a guard. If you people return to work, I promise that I will consider all your demands sympathetically.” She said, “There will be talks with everyone and the culprits will be punished.” The Chief Minister said that I demand from the CBI to give death penalty to the culprits.
Protest outside the health department office for the fifth day
The Bengal CM has reached the protest site at a time when the protest of junior doctors outside the Health Department office in Salt Lake continued for the fifth day (despite torrential rains). On Saturday (September 14, 2024), Aniket Mahato, one of the protesting doctors, told news agency PTI, “Until the deceased gets justice and our other demands are met, even rain, heat, earthquake will not be able to stop our protest. We have come here for a noble cause and no force will be able to stop us from achieving it.”

Another doctor named Soumya Chakraborty said, “If someone thinks that we are stubborn and obstinate, then it is absolutely wrong. There is definitely something going on in their mind. We are doctors, not politicians. There is no politics here. This is just a demand to clean up the health system.”
Prohibitory orders extended till September 30 near RG Kar
Meanwhile, the prohibitory orders imposed around RG Kar Medical College and Hospital have been extended till September 30. According to officials, the prohibitory orders were first imposed on August 18, while these orders prohibit the gathering of more than five people in the specified area.
