Kotri Bhatti Case: What Happened That Day? How Were the Accused Caught? Whose Testimony Proved Costly? Know Everything

Kotri Bhatti Case:

Kotri Bhatti Case: The Kotri Bhatti incident of Bhilwara was such a brutal incident that anyone who heard about it shuddered. The POCSO court number 2 of Bhilwara sentenced the two savages who carried out this incident, real brothers Kalu and Kanha, to death on Monday. This decision of the court is being supported everywhere. The way this incident of gang rape of a minor girl was carried out and later she was thrown alive in the coal furnace was no less than a demonic act. The way the girl’s half-burnt body was later treated was also heart-wrenching.

Mahavir Kishnawat, the special public prosecutor appointed by the government to bring the culprits of Kotdi Bhatti case to justice, says that the court has considered it the ‘rarest of rare cases’. In this case, statements of 43 witnesses were recorded and 223 evidences were presented. There was no eyewitness to this incident. The case proceeded on the basis of evidence found at the scene of the incident. Out of 43 witnesses, 42 witnesses confirmed the evidences that came to light during the investigation. Only one witness changed her statements in the court and she was the mother-in-law of accused Kalu.

What happened that day

Kalu and Kanha were the farm neighbors of the minor girl. They lived and worked at the kilns located there. On August 2, 2023, in the afternoon, the minor had gone to graze goats in the field. Seeing her alone there, the devil in the minds of Kalu and Kanha woke up. Both of them gang-raped her. Later, when the victim somehow managed to escape from them and ran away, they hit her on the head with a stick. Due to this, she became unconscious. This frightened both the accused. Later, they called their family members and told them about the entire incident.

First they burnt her alive, when it did not burn, they took out the body and cut it into pieces

Kalu and Kanha made a plan to dispose of the body so that they do not get caught. They threw the girl alive into a furnace. To burn her, they poured burnt black oil on her and set it on fire. But when the girl’s body did not burn completely, they started fearing that they might get caught. So they took the half-burnt body out of the furnace. Then they cut it into pieces with a shovel, filled it into sacks and threw it about 1.5 kilometres away.

The smoke coming out of the furnace aroused suspicion

On the other hand, when the family came to look for the girl, the accused expressed ignorance. They even pretended to search for her along with the family of the deceased. All the furnaces were closed at that time. But when the family came back to the furnaces at night, smoke was coming out of one of the furnaces. This aroused their suspicion. They searched around it. Later, when they turned the wood in the furnace, the girl’s bracelet and ring were found there. From that very moment they got suspicious that something untoward had happened to their daughter.

The accused did not panic even after seeing the police

Later when the police reached the spot and investigated, the accused did not panic and tried to mislead them as well. But when the police’s suspicion deepened, they detained four people and questioned them. After strict interrogation, links started connecting and the accused were arrested. After that, the number of accused involved in the conspiracy of this incident increased to 9. Police arrested a total of nine accused including their family members who were involved in the conspiracy. Two minors were detained.
