Major change in Rajasthan’s government schools: Online attendance via Shala Darpan will now be mandatory.

The Education Department has implemented a new system in Rajasthan’s government schools, making it mandatory to record 100% online attendance on the ‘Shala Darpan’ portal. This system has come into effect from the new academic session in 158 schools across the Bhopalgarh block of Jodhpur district. The move aims to ensure transparency and accuracy in the schools’ attendance systems. Activity resumed in the 158 government schools of Jodhpur’s Bhopalgarh block following the summer break; as students returned to classrooms after nearly a month and a half, their daily schedules also underwent changes.

Education Department Issues Orders

RP Bhagirath Kadwasra stated that the routine of morning assemblies, regular classes, classwork, and homework has restarted. Meanwhile, effective from the very first day of the new academic session, the Education Department has mandated the recording of 100% online attendance for both students and teachers on the Shala Darpan portal. An order issued by the Rajasthan School Education Council directs all District Education Officers, Chief Block Education Officers, and school heads to ensure that the attendance of students and staff is regularly recorded on the Shala Darpan portal on every working day.

Attendance entries for any student, teacher, or staff member must not remain pending, and details regarding leave and absence must be accurately recorded. Regular monitoring of this process will also be conducted at the district level. In fact, while attendance is currently recorded in physical registers in many schools, there has been negligence in updating online attendance on the Shala Darpan portal. This leads to discrepancies between offline and online records. Such data mismatches have previously affected statistics compiled at the state and national levels and often hindered the implementation of schemes and reporting processes.

Concerned Officials and Staff to be Held Accountable

CBEO Santosh stated that the order issued by the Rajasthan School Education Council explicitly mentions that ensuring the timely and 100% online recording of attendance on the Shala Darpan portal is the responsibility of all schools. If negligence occurs in this task or incorrect data is recorded, the concerned officers and employees will be held accountable. He also stated that all schools must ensure timely data updates to eliminate any possibility of discrepancies at any level.
