PM Awas Yojana: Relief-bringing news has emerged for thousands of beneficiaries constructing their permanent homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin). The Union Ministry of Rural Development has raised the daily wage for beneficiaries performing manual labor in the construction of these houses to ₹300 per day. The state office has issued an order regarding this and communicated the information to all districts. The implementation of this new rate will provide financial relief to lakhs of rural families in the state and offer them additional support for their housing construction work.
Daily wage increased from ₹261 to ₹300
Under the ‘Viksit Bharat Rozgar evam Aajivika Guarantee Mission’ (VBGRAMJ), the daily wage for unskilled workers in the state has been fixed at ₹300, effective from July 1, 2026. Previously, workers engaged under MGNREGA received a daily wage of ₹261. With the new system in place, there has been a direct increase of ₹39 per day in the wage rate.
Increased benefits for Pradhan Mantri Awas construction
Beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) are provided the benefit of 90 days of unskilled labor under MGNREGA during house construction. The Central Government has now clarified that these beneficiaries will also be paid ₹300 per day in accordance with the revised wage rate. This will provide families constructing homes with greater financial assistance than before.
Additional benefit of approximately ₹3,500
With the implementation of the new wage rate, every eligible beneficiary of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana will receive an additional benefit of approximately ₹3,500 based on 90 days of work. This will reduce the financial burden of construction on rural families and is likely to accelerate the pace of housing construction.
Boost to the rural economy
Experts believe that the hike in wage rates will also have a direct impact on the rural economy. The increased income will boost the purchasing power of laborer families, thereby stimulating economic activity in local markets. Additionally, this will help ensure the timely completion of construction work under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
Government’s Objective
The Central Government aims to provide a pucca (permanent) house to every eligible family through the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. At the same time, a significant step has been taken to financially empower beneficiaries by increasing wage rates. The government believes that the increased wages will provide relief to poor rural families, enabling them to complete the construction of their homes without facing additional financial strain.
