Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that initially Rs 3,437 crore will be spent for the scheme. As people join this scheme, its scope will be expanded. The government said that all senior citizens aged 70 years and above, irrespective of their financial status, will be able to avail the benefits of this scheme. A new separate card will be issued for them.
If any senior citizen is already taking advantage of any health insurance scheme, then he can choose his existing scheme or Ayushman Bharat Scheme.
Ayushman Bharat: The Centre had launched the scheme in 2017
Ayushman Bharat is the world’s largest insurance scheme, which provides free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh every year to the poorest 40 per cent of the people in the country.
Under the National Health Policy, the central government started this scheme in the year 2017. However, many states including West Bengal are refusing to accept this scheme and are running their own scheme in the state.
Under this scheme, treatment can be availed in selected government and private hospitals across the country. There is also a provision to pay the expenses incurred 10 days before and after hospitalization under this scheme.
All diseases are covered in this scheme
Chronic diseases are also covered in Ayushman Yojana. Expenses before and after hospitalization for any disease are covered in it. Expenses incurred on transport are covered in it. All medical tests, operations, treatments etc. are included in it. So far more than 5.5 crore people have got themselves treated under this scheme.
