A court in Mumbai on Wednesday granted a two-day transit remand to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) of an accused arrested in Nashik in connection with the alleged NEET paper leak case.
The accused, identified as Shubham Khairnar (30), a resident of Nandgaon in Nashik district, was taken into custody by the CBI late Tuesday night before being produced before a magistrate court in Mumbai.
The agency sought transit remand to transfer him to Delhi for further investigation into the alleged irregularities linked to the NEET-UG 2026 examination.
During the hearing, the CBI informed the court that the involvement of other individuals from different states could not be ruled out and custodial interrogation of the accused was necessary for the ongoing probe.
After hearing the submissions, the court approved the request and granted a two-day transit remand to the CBI.
According to officials, the agency is expected to take the accused to Delhi for further questioning as part of the widening investigation.
Earlier, the Nashik Police crime branch unit had detained Khairnar on Tuesday following a request from Rajasthan Police. He was picked up from the Indiranagar area of Nashik.
The NEET-UG 2026 examination, conducted on May 3 across multiple cities in India and abroad, was cancelled amid allegations of a paper leak, prompting the government to order a CBI investigation into the case.
Authorities have indicated that the investigation is ongoing and more arrests or links across states cannot be ruled out as the probe progresses.
