The Rajasthan Police has issued detailed guidelines to all districts to ensure a peaceful and safe Kanwar Yatra 2026. Acting on the instructions of Director General of Police Rajiv Kumar Sharma, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) V.K. Singh has directed all police officials to ensure robust security arrangements, traffic management, and effective coordination with neighboring states. These special measures have been implemented in view of the movement of devotees returning with Gangajal (holy water from the Ganges) from Haridwar between July 30 and August 11. The police have appealed to the devotees to adhere to safety protocols and cooperate with the administration.
Special Advisory for Kanwar Pilgrims
The Rajasthan Police has urged pilgrims to carry valid identity proof during the journey. They have also been instructed to use only the designated Kanwar routes. Pilgrims are advised to immediately inform the local police if they notice any suspicious activity, unclaimed objects, or unusual situations.
Strict Ban on Weapons and Intoxicants
Carrying items such as hockey sticks, wooden clubs (dandas), tridents (trishuls), baseball bats, or any other weapons and sharp objects during the pilgrimage is prohibited. Furthermore, the consumption of alcohol and other intoxicants is strictly banned. Legal action will be taken against those who violate these rules.
No Permission on Delhi-Dehradun Expressway
The police have clarified that the movement of Kanwar pilgrims—whether on foot or by vehicle—is strictly prohibited on the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway. Additionally, action will be taken against the transportation of pilgrims in goods vehicles, the use of high-decibel DJ systems exceeding prescribed limits, and the playing of songs that incite religious frenzy.
24-Hour Social Media Monitoring
Special surveillance will be maintained on social media throughout the pilgrimage. Immediate action will be taken against posts spreading rumors and misleading videos. If necessary, the district police will issue factual information promptly to refute rumors. Police to reach the scene within 10 minutes
Officers deployed in the field have been instructed to reach the location within 10 minutes upon receiving information regarding vehicle collisions, parking disputes, or any minor altercations. The objective is to contain minor disputes before they escalate.
Additional security in sensitive areas
Additional police forces will be deployed in sensitive areas and localities with mixed populations. Surveillance and videography from rooftops will also be conducted. Furthermore, service camps will be set up away from the main roads. Instructions have also been issued for the deployment of female police personnel to ensure the safety of female Kanwariyas, as well as for conducting anti-sabotage checks, implementing effective barricading, and maintaining ambulance corridors. The Rajasthan Police has appealed to all pilgrims to adhere to safety guidelines during the journey, cooperate with the administration, and refrain from taking the law into their own hands in the event of any dispute. They have also been advised to immediately inform the police in case of any emergency.
