Rule Changes from August 1: Several major rules will change starting August 1! Changes regarding Tatkal tickets, CKYC, and more will directly impact your pocket.

Rule Changes Effective August 1st: The first day of every new month brings with it several changes that directly impact the household budgets and daily lives of ordinary citizens. Several significant rules are set to change in the country starting August 1, 2026, directly affecting your finances, travel, taxes, and banking services. These new rules cover everything from LPG cylinder prices and railway ‘Tatkal’ ticket booking windows to credit card service charges, ITR penalties, and identity verification procedures. A lack of accurate information could lead to financial loss. Let us understand—in simple, easy-to-grasp language—the five major changes taking place in the country from August 1st.

New LPG Cylinder Prices

Oil marketing companies review the prices of cooking gas cylinders on the first day of every month.
New rates for domestic and commercial LPG cylinders will be announced on August 1st, taking into account fluctuations in crude oil prices in the international market.
If the price of commercial gas cylinders rises, dining out at hotels and restaurants could become more expensive, directly impacting your monthly budget.
New Token-Based Rule for Tatkal Ticket Booking

Starting August 1st, West Central Railway is implementing a new ‘token system’ for booking Tatkal tickets at reservation counters.
To prevent long queues and overcrowding at counters, the timing for token distribution is being aligned with the opening time for Tatkal bookings.
Tokens will be issued between 8:30 AM and 9:00 AM for AC Tatkal and between 9:00 AM and 9:30 AM for non-AC Tatkal; Tatkal tickets can be booked at the counter only after obtaining a token.
Major Changes in Credit Card and Banking Charges

From August 1st, some banks may revise charges, reward point structures, or other rules related to their credit cards.
Please note that these changes will not apply to all banks.
Therefore, if you use a credit card, be sure to check your bank’s website or mobile app for details on the new rules and charges. Hefty Late Fees and Penalties on ITR Filing

The deadline for filing income tax returns for the financial year without a penalty is July 31.
Those who fail to file their returns by this deadline will be liable to pay a hefty penalty—based on their income—if they file a ‘belated return’ starting August 1.
Therefore, taxpayers are advised to file their returns along with the late fee as soon as possible to avoid any legal complications.

Launch of CKYC 2.0

The ‘Central Know Your Customer’ (CKYC) 2.0 system is set to be implemented across the country’s banking and financial institutions starting August 1 to enhance the security of customer verification.
Under this system, customers will be issued a unique 14-digit CKYC number.
The major advantage of this new system is that you will not need to submit separate KYC documents to every bank, insurance company, or mutual fund.
