Electoral Bond: State Bank of India (SBI) has sent the complete data of electoral bonds to the Election Commission on Tuesday (12 March). The Supreme Court on Monday (March 11) reprimanded SBI and rejected the petition seeking extension of the deadline for providing information related to electoral bonds. Also, the court had ordered that SBI should give complete information about electoral bonds to the Election Commission by the end of working hours on March 12. Accordingly, SBI has sent the complete data of electoral bonds to the Election Commission by 5.30 pm on Tuesday.

Election Commission’s website will be updated by March 15
In the Supreme Court, a five-judge Constitution bench led by CJI DY Chandrachud has also directed the Election Commission to publish the information shared by SBI on its official website by 5 pm on March 15. Therefore, now that the data has been sent by SBI to the Election Commission, it will have to be published on its website by March 15.
In the hearing held in the Supreme Court, Justice Sanjeev Khanna, Justice B.R. Gavai, Justice J.B. Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra were also included. The bench issued notice to SBI saying that if the bank fails to comply with its directions and deadlines, the court can take action against it for willful disobedience of its February 15 decision.

Let us tell you that on February 15, a five-member Constitution Bench had given a historic decision canceling the electoral bond scheme of the Centre. Also terming it unconstitutional, the Election Commission was ordered to disclose the donors, amount given as donations and recipients of donations by March 13. After this decision, SBI had requested to extend the deadline till June 30 for disclosing the details of electoral bonds. However, on Monday, the Supreme Court ignored SBI’s request and ordered the Election Commission to provide all the details within working hours on Tuesday evening.
