Jaipur Water Bill: The Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) is taking a major step towards fully digitizing drinking water services in Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan. A QR code-based billing system will be implemented for approximately 6 lakh water consumers in the city starting August 10. Under this new system, consumers will no longer need to make trips to offices to pay their bills; instead, they will be able to make online payments from the comfort of their homes.
Personalized QR Code on Every Bill
Under PHED’s new system, a personalized QR code will be printed on each consumer’s bill, permanently linked to their billing account. By scanning this QR code with a mobile phone, consumers will be able to view their current outstanding bill, check the records of their last 10 bills, and make instant online payments.
Mandatory Mobile Number Linking Before August 10
The biggest challenge facing the department is the registration of consumers’ mobile numbers. Currently, out of the 6 lakh consumers in Jaipur, only 1.3 lakh have their mobile numbers linked to PHED records. Consequently, the department has urged all consumers to register their mobile numbers with PHED as soon as possible.
Benefits of Waivers on Outstanding Bills
According to PHED officials, the state government is preparing to launch an amnesty scheme for water consumers. This scheme will offer relief or waivers on old, outstanding water bills. However, this benefit will be available only to those consumers whose mobile numbers are linked to their PHED accounts.
Notifications via SMS
The department will soon send SMS messages to all consumers to provide information regarding mobile number registration and the new billing system. Officials state that from August 10, the water billing process in Jaipur will become fully digital, cashless, and more convenient, thereby saving consumers both time and hassle.
