Weather Alert: The monsoon is currently in full swing across the country. Consequently, while the threat of landslides and heavy rainfall looms over the mountains, floods have disrupted normal life in Northeast and Western India. 68 people have lost their lives in Assam and 56 in Gujarat, with lakhs of people affected by the floods. Relief and rescue operations are proceeding rapidly.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh alert for heavy rain and strong winds across several states, including Delhi-NCR, due to a deep depression formed over the Bay of Bengal. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected on various days between July 28 and August 2 in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and several Northeastern states. Some areas may also experience thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds blowing at speeds of 40 to 70 kmph.
Yellow Alert for Rain in Delhi-NCR
Delhi’s skies will remain overcast today. Light to moderate rain or drizzle is likely by the afternoon. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 34 degrees Celsius.
A warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued for Noida and Greater Noida, as well as Western UP, from July 28 to July 31.
Ghaziabad may experience intermittent heavy rain, strong winds (40–70 kmph), and lightning strikes between July 28 and July 31.
Meanwhile, in Gurugram, residents are advised to allow extra time for their commute due to the likelihood of waterlogging caused by heavy rain.
Weather Update for Other States
An alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall and lightning strikes has been issued for several districts in Uttar Pradesh—including Meerut, Prayagraj, Agra, Jhansi, Bareilly, and Mirzapur—from July 28 to August 2. Widespread and heavy rainfall is forecast for most districts of Bihar—including Patna, Gaya, Muzaffarpur, Purnia, and Bhagalpur—between July 28 and August 2.
Warnings for torrential rain and thunderstorms have been issued for regions across eastern and western Rajasthan, including Jaipur, Kota, Udaipur, Ajmer, and Jodhpur, from July 28 to August 2.
A ‘Red’ or ‘Orange’ alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall is in effect for several districts in Uttarakhand—such as Dehradun, Nainital, Chamoli, and Pithoragarh—from July 28 to August 2; there is also a risk of flash floods and landslides in some areas.
Warnings for very heavy rainfall have been issued for Shimla, Mandi, Kullu, Kangra, and Chamba in Himachal Pradesh between July 28 and August 2.
Intermittent rain, thunderstorms, and lightning strikes are forecast for Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Dhanbad, and Bokaro in Jharkhand from July 28 to August 2.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall, strong winds, and lightning strikes are expected in Srinagar, Jammu, Poonch, Rajouri, and Udhampur (Jammu & Kashmir) between July 29 and August 2.
