Delhi Gets First-Time MLA as CM! RSS Backed Rekha Gupta, High Command Approved – Here’s Why BJP Chose a Woman Leader?

Delhi CM Rekha Gupta: Rekha Gupta becomes Delhi CM with RSS backing & BJP's nod. Why did the party pick a woman leader? Check out the 3 key reasons behind this decision.

Delhi CM Rekha Gupta: Rekha Gupta Jindal, a first-time MLA from Shalimar Bagh, has been named Delhi’s ninth Chief Minister. The decision was taken in the BJP legislative party meeting on Wednesday, solidifying her position as the face of BJP’s new leadership in the capital. She defeated AAP’s Vandana Kumari by a margin of 29,595 votes in the Delhi Assembly elections.

Gupta, a seasoned BJP leader and an RSS-backed candidate, holds the position of General Secretary in Delhi BJP and also serves as the National Vice President of BJP Mahila Morcha. Her appointment as CM is a strategic move by the party, influenced by three major factors. Let’s dive into why BJP made this decision.

Still, there are 3 reasons due to which she was chosen as the Chief Minister –

1. Vaishya Representation – A Community Kejriwal Also Belonged To

Rekha Gupta belongs to the Vaishya community, which dominates Delhi’s business sector and has traditionally been a strong voter base for the BJP. Former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal also comes from the same community, making this choice significant for BJP’s outreach.

The BJP was reportedly considering three Vaishya candidates for the CM post: Rekha Gupta, Vijender Gupta, and Jitender Mahajan. Ultimately, Gupta was chosen to strengthen the party’s bond with the business community and ensure maximum electoral support in future elections.

2. Consolidating Women’s Vote Bank

The BJP secured 48 seats in the Delhi Assembly elections, garnering a vote share of 45.56%. One of the primary reasons for this success was its extensive focus on women voters. By appointing Rekha Gupta as Delhi’s CM, the party aims to further consolidate its support among women.

To reinforce this, BJP had announced several schemes aimed at empowering women. Some of the key initiatives include:

  • ₹2,500 Monthly Financial Aid – Women from economically weaker sections will receive this assistance starting from March 8, International Women’s Day.
  • Board for Domestic Workers – A dedicated welfare board will be set up to support domestic maids.
  • Subsidized LPG Cylinders – A ₹500 subsidy per cylinder for poor women, with one free cylinder each on Holi and Diwali.
  • Matru Suraksha Vandana Yojana – ₹21,000 and six nutrition kits for pregnant women.
  • Free Bus Travel – Women will continue to enjoy free travel in Delhi’s public transport system.

These initiatives played a crucial role in BJP’s win, and by making a woman CM, the party is looking to sustain and expand this advantage.

3. RSS Influence and BJP’s Political Strategy

Rekha Gupta’s elevation to CM is a well-calculated move orchestrated with RSS influence. The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) played a crucial role in her selection, proposing her name before the legislative party meeting. The BJP leadership, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, and Haryana CM Nayab Saini, endorsed this decision.

Delhi has previously had three women Chief Ministers—Sheila Dikshit, Sushma Swaraj, and Atishi. By appointing Rekha Gupta, BJP aims to send a strong message about women’s leadership within the party and attract more female voters.
