Parliament Chaos: Pushing and shoving and then drama…A huge uproar was witnessed in the winter session of Parliament today. The functioning of the House was disrupted due to a heated argument between the ruling party and the opposition. This uproar reached its peak when incidents of pushing and sloganeering were reported at the gate of the House. Pratap Sarangi, BJP MP from Balasore, Odisha, got injured in the pushing and shoving. In this article, we will tell you the whole story of the pushing and shoving in Parliament.

What happened at 10.30 in the morning?

At 10.30 am, members of the ruling party and the opposition came face to face near the ‘Makar Dwar’ of the Parliament House and raised slogans. While the opposition leaders were condemning Amit Shah’s statement on Ambedkar and demanding his resignation, BJP MPs were protesting against the Congress’ statement on Ambedkar. During this time, MPs of both the parties came face to face and then the ‘game’ of pushing and shoving started. Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput were injured in the pushing and shoving between the opposition and NDA MPs.

Many opposition members reached the Parliament wearing blue clothes and were holding placards with pictures of Babasaheb. Blue colour is seen as a symbol of Ambedkar and his ideas. Rahul Gandhi, who often wears a white T-shirt, reached the Parliament wearing a blue T-shirt. Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi was wearing a blue sari.

On what issue was the protest taking place?

Opposition MPs are protesting against the statement made by Union Minister Amit Shah on Ambedkar. Opposition members claimed that Shah’s comment is an insult to Ambedkar.

What is Makar Dwar?

The Makar Dwar of the new Parliament House is installed at the entrance of the old Parliament House. It is a symbol of the protection of the democratic traditions and cultural heritage of the Indian Parliament. MPs enter the House through the Makar Dwar. It is a small place.

Rahul’s entry

  • It is alleged that Rahul Gandhi allegedly pushed the BJP MPs who were protesting at the Makar Dwar of Parliament.
  • BJP leaders claim that the way to Parliament was open for opposition MPs, but Rahul Gandhi tried to go through the protest of NDA MPs. During this, an incident of pushing and shoving took place.

And Then

  • Sarangi alleges that he was injured due to the push of Rahul Gandhi
  • BJP talks of legal action against Rahul and Congress MPs
  • PM Modi inquires about the health of Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput admitted in hospital

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday spoke to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput, who were injured during the protest by the ruling and opposition parties in the Parliament House complex, and enquired about their health. Sarangi and Rajput were injured in the scuffle during which members of the opposition and the ruling party protested in the Parliament complex on Thursday on the issue of insult to Babasaheb Ambedkar. Both were admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.

Congress Allegations

  • Rahul accuses BJP MPs of pushing and preventing him from entering Parliament
  • He also accuses Kharge and Priyanka Gandhi of pushing him

Talking to the media on Thursday about the pushing and shoving incident, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said that Rahul Gandhi was going to the Parliament peacefully chanting ‘Jai Bhim’ while carrying a photo of BR Ambedkar. Who stopped him from going to the Parliament? We have been protesting on the side for so many days. Whoever is coming and going, there is a full path for them. They protested for the first time and stopped everyone, pushed and did hooliganism. Mallikarjun Kharge was thrown on the ground in front of me. After that, the CPM MP was pushed, he fell on Kharge. I thought his leg must have broken or something else must have happened. It was visible from his face that he was hurt, then a chair was found for him from somewhere. We are protesting here every day, nothing has happened till date, this is all a conspiracy.

‘Female MP came crying’

  • Nagaland BJP MP Phanganon Konyak also accuses Rahul of misbehavior
  • Konyak says Rahul started shouting at her, Nadda speaks in Rajya Sabha
  • Speaker Dhankhar also says that the MP came to him crying to complain
  • Nadda demands passing of censure motion against Rahul Gandhi in the House

In the House, Nagaland BJP member Phangnon Konyak alleged that when she was protesting with other MPs near the Makar Dwar of the Parliament, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi came near her and started shouting at her. Konyak said that she is narrating this incident with a very sad heart.

She said that the protest of the MPs was going on very peacefully under the stairs of the Makar Dwar of the Parliament. She said that during this time something happened to me which I am telling with great disappointment. Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi came near me, due to which I started feeling very uncomfortable. He started shouting at me.

And the matter reached the police station

  • Anurag Thakur, Bansuri Swaraj and three other NDA MPs reached Sansad Marg police station
  • A complaint is lodged against opposition MPs including Rahul Gandhi for pushing and shoving
  • After some time, Congress leaders Digvijay and Rajiv Shukla also reached to lodge the FIR.

Three National Democratic Alliance (NDA) MPs, including Anurag Thakur and Bansuri Swaraj, have filed a police complaint against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of indulging in “physical assault and provocation” during the “shove and shove” in Parliament.

On Thursday, the Congress lodged a complaint at the Sansad Marg police station in the capital and accused the BJP leaders of misbehaving with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. A delegation of Congress MPs including Digvijay Singh, Mukul Wasnik, Rajiv Shukla and Pramod Tiwari went to the police station and submitted the complaint.

What did Kharge and Rahul say?

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of trying to divert attention from the issue of Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement related to Dr BR Ambedkar and said that Shah should apologize and resign.

He also alleged in a press conference held at the party headquarters here that the thinking of the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh is against the Constitution and Babasaheb Ambedkar. The thinking of the BJP and the RSS is anti-Constitution and anti-Ambedkar. These people want to erase the memory and contribution of Ambedkar.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge told reporters that the statements being made by today’s government and the Home Minister about Babasaheb are very sad. Things are being said without checking the facts. Whatever they (BJP leaders) have said about Babasaheb and Jawaharlal Nehru till date is all a lie.

They have been admitted here after getting injured during a scuffle with India Block MPs.

He is the leader of the opposition, what is the need for him to show off his wrestling skills. Have you learned karate to beat others? This is not the personal property of any king. What would have happened if our MPs had also raised their hands? Both our MPs are seriously injured. We will see later what action to take.
