Asia Cup 2026: Team India reaches the semi-finals; will there be another epic India-Pakistan clash?

Asia Cup 2026: The Indian team is displaying exceptional form in the Asia Cup. Under Harmanpreet Kaur’s captaincy, Team India has secured its spot in the semi-finals. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka has also reached the semi-finals from Group B. Although the Pakistan team has not yet made it to the final four, speculation has already begun regarding a potential clash between India and Pakistan in the tournament. Such a match could only take place under specific conditions; let us explain what they are.

Team India wins all league matches; Pakistan secures only one victory

Team India has played three matches in the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 so far and won every single one. Having won all three matches, they have confirmed their place in the semi-finals. India currently holds six points from three games. As for Pakistan, they have played two matches and managed to win only one, giving them two points; the team is currently in second place. Thailand has also played three matches, winning one, and holds two points. A match between Pakistan and Hong Kong China is yet to be played in the league phase. Hong Kong has played two matches without securing a win. If Pakistan wins its final match, it will advance to the semi-finals. However, if they lose, the team with the best net run rate among Thailand, Pakistan, and Hong Kong will progress to the semi-finals.

Sri Lanka also secures semi-final spot

In Group B, Sri Lanka has confirmed its semi-final spot by winning all three of its matches. Bangladesh and the UAE have two points each, while Indonesia has yet to open its account. There is a possibility that Bangladesh will advance to the semi-finals by winning its final league match.

India vs. Pakistan match possible in the final, not the semi-final

Let us now look at the semi-final lineup. The team finishing at the top of Group A will face the runner-up of Group B. In the second semi-final, the Group B topper will take on the Group A runner-up. Consequently, it is expected that India will face Bangladesh in the semi-finals, while the other semi-final will feature a clash between Sri Lanka and Pakistan. This clearly indicates that there will be no India-Pakistan semi-final match. However, if both teams win their respective semi-final matches, a face-off in the final becomes a distinct possibility. For this mega-clash to materialize, the Pakistan team must first win its final league match and subsequently secure a victory in the semi-final. It remains to be seen how the Indian and Pakistani teams perform in their remaining matches.
