The BCCI is set to decide soon whether Ajit Agarkar’s tenure will be extended. According to a report by The Indian Express, BCCI officials are scheduled to meet selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar after India’s Test series against Sri Lanka to discuss his future. Agarkar completes his three-year term as chairman in September and could receive a one-year extension. The report notes that this meeting will take place amidst differences between the selectors and the BCCI regarding Rohit Sharma’s future. Although the selectors had reportedly informed Rohit Sharma that they were considering dropping him from the team after the England series in July, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia stated that Rohit “will continue to represent the country as long as he remains part of the plans.”
The report further states that the BCCI wants the selectors to make decisions regarding Rohit’s future on a series-by-series basis leading up to the 2027 ODI World Cup. However, reports suggest that the selectors are displeased with Saikia’s remarks.
Earlier, former India head coach Ravi Shastri had praised Rohit Sharma’s magnificent century during the third and final ODI against England at Lord’s. He remarked that Rohit had “silenced everyone” speculating about his future in the 50-over format.
