New Delhi: IND vs SL: Indian opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal achieved a significant milestone during the first Test match against Sri Lanka in Galle. Jaiswal, who was run out after scoring 37 runs in the first innings, has played his first 30 Test matches at 30 different venues. With this feat, he has equaled the record held by the legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar.
30 Tests, 30 Different Venues
By taking the field for the Galle Test against Sri Lanka, Yashasvi Jaiswal is playing his 30th Test match for India. Notably, all 30 of his Test matches to date have been played at different venues.
In other words, Yashasvi has not played two Test matches at the same venue yet. This achievement places him on par with a special record held by Sachin Tendulkar; Sachin, too, played his first 30 Test matches at different venues.
Run Out After Scoring 37 in Galle
Yashasvi appeared to be in good touch during the first innings of the Galle Test but was unfortunately run out after scoring 37 runs.
While attempting to stop a shot played by KL Rahul, a Sri Lankan bowler dived and collided with Yashasvi. As Yashasvi fell, Rahul had already reached the other end. Subsequently, the Sri Lankan players dislodged the bails at the striker’s end, forcing Yashasvi to return to the pavilion.
Now, Eyes on Sanjay Manjrekar’s Record
Yashasvi Jaiswal now has the opportunity to equal Sanjay Manjrekar’s record. Manjrekar played 33 consecutive Test matches at different venues.
India’s next Test match is scheduled to take place in Colombo. Yashasvi has not yet played a Test match in Colombo. Following that, the Indian team will tour New Zealand, where Yashasvi has also not played Test cricket so far. Consequently, he could move closer to this special record in the upcoming matches.
