Vaibhav Suryavanshi has once again made history, achieving a feat that no other Indian player had managed before. Currently competing in the Duleep Trophy, Vaibhav—who missed out on scoring big in the season’s opening match—delivered a spectacular batting performance in the second game to score a half-century. He has now become the youngest batter to score a fifty in this tournament.
Vaibhav scored only eight runs and took two wickets in the first match
Vaibhav Suryavanshi is representing the East Zone in this year’s Duleep Trophy. The team played its first match against the North East Zone and emerged victorious. However, Vaibhav did not make a significant impact with the bat; he was dismissed for just eight runs, though he did grab headlines by taking two wickets in the match. He did not get a chance to bat in the second innings as the team won the match by an innings.
Match between East Zone and Central Zone in the Duleep Trophy
In the subsequent match, the East Zone faced the Central Zone. Batting first, the Central Zone scored 266 runs. On Monday, Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Abhimanyu Easwaran opened the batting for the East Zone. Vaibhav displayed the kind of form he is known for, smashing a half-century off just 42 balls. During his innings, he also hit a six. However, his knock was not entirely flawless; he offered two chances to the opposition, but the fielding side squandered them by dropping the catches.
Vaibhav breaks Laxman Singh’s 57-year-old record
As soon as Vaibhav Suryavanshi reached the fifty-run mark, he became the youngest batter to score a half-century in the Duleep Trophy. As of today, August 31, Vaibhav is 15 years and 157 days old. Prior to this, Laxman Singh had scored a half-century in the Duleep Trophy in 1969 at the age of 16 years and 23 days. Piyush Chawla holds the third spot on this list; he managed to score a half-century in 2005 at the age of 16 years and 307 days.
Vaibhav falls short of a century
Vaibhav did not stop after completing his half-century and continued to bat aggressively. However, he ultimately missed out on completing his century. He played an innings of 92 runs off 79 balls, hitting seven fours and seven sixes along the way. He batted with a strike rate of 116.46 but fell eight runs short of the century mark while attempting to hit another six.
