New Delhi: Indian batting stalwart Virat Kohli has made a significant statement regarding the ultimate ambition of his cricketing career. Kohli expressed that his dream is to play a match-winning innings for the team in a World Cup final. However, he clarified that winning the World Cup trophy for India is far more important than any personal achievement.
Kohli is currently preparing for the upcoming home ODI series against the West Indies. Speaking to JioStar ahead of the first ODI, he opened up about his competitive nature and his desire to steer the team to victory.
Kohli stated that he has always aspired to be the player who leads his team to a win. “I have always wanted to be the player who takes the team to victory in every match. That is my nature, and it will never change. My goal is to win as many matches as possible for the team,” he said.
He further elaborated that his dream is to play a match-winning knock while chasing a target in a World Cup final. According to Kohli, getting the opportunity to do so would be an incredibly special moment for him.
However, Virat also made it clear that even if he doesn’t play such an innings in the final, he would be equally happy if India wins the World Cup. He emphasized that, ultimately, winning the trophy is the primary objective.
Kohli said, “If that happens, it’s great; but even if it doesn’t and we win the World Cup, I’ll be just as happy. After all, despite my competitive nature, this could be my last chance to play in a World Cup. So, winning the trophy is what matters most.”
Reflecting on his dream, Kohli remarked that as a batsman, nothing could be more satisfying than staying at the crease, rescuing the team from a difficult situation, and guiding them to victory.
He added that the drive to pull the team out of tough spots and secure a win is what motivates him to keep competing at this level. Kohli also said that he never wants to lose his competitive nature, but for him, the team’s larger goal will always take precedence over individual achievement.
