Apple Pay arrives in India! Now make direct payments using your iPhone and Apple Watch—no need to carry a credit card.

Apple Pay India: The wait for Apple Pay in India is finally over. Apple has launched its digital payment service in the Indian market. Initially, the company has partnered with Axis Bank. Currently, Axis Bank Visa and Mastercard credit cards can be added to Apple Pay; however, Axis Bank RuPay credit cards do not yet support this feature.

With Apple Pay, users can make contactless payments using their iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. There is no need to open a separate payment app; payments can be made by simply tapping the device on an NFC-enabled PoS terminal.

How to make payments using an iPhone?

To make a payment at a store, double-click the iPhone’s side button. Then, authenticate using Face ID, Touch ID, or the device passcode. Once authenticated, the payment is processed simply by holding the iPhone near the NFC-enabled PoS terminal.

According to Apple, this process does not require entering a separate PIN or OTP.

Apple Pay option available on these apps and websites too

Apple Pay can also be used on apps and websites where the payment option is available. At launch, support has been confirmed for platforms like Blinkit, Zomato, Zepto, MakeMyTrip, and Ixigo, as well as merchants like Tata and Reliance Brands.

How to add an Axis Bank credit card to the Wallet

To add an eligible Axis Bank Visa or Mastercard credit card to Apple Pay, open the Apple Wallet app on your iPhone. Then, tap the ‘+’ icon and follow the on-screen instructions.

Eligible cards can also be added directly to Apple Wallet via Axis Bank’s latest mobile app.

Card information remains secure

According to Apple, the user’s actual card number is not shared with Apple’s servers or the merchant. Instead, a unique Device Account Number is used, which is securely stored in the device’s Secure Element. Every payment is authenticated via Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode, adding an extra layer of security to the payment process.

Currently, Apple Pay is available in India on iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. Support for Apple Pay on Mac will be introduced later. The company may also expand support to other banks and card networks in India in the future.
