Microsoft Outage: The cloud services of US multinational corporation and technology company Microsoft faced problems on Friday. This caused its servers to go down. According to the report, this happened due to the update of antivirus ‘CrowdStrike’. CrowdSrike is a cyber security platform that provides security solutions to users. The downing of Microsoft’s server affected the working of airlines, TV telecast, banking and many corporate companies across the world including America and India. Meanwhile, CrowdStrike has told its customers about the manual solution in a note.

Actually, due to the update of CrowdStrike ‘Falcon Sensor’, Microsoft had a massive server down. Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) was coming due to system crash. Now the CEO of CrowdStrike has said that the issue has been isolated. Work is being done rapidly to eliminate the problem.

CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz said in a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that the company is “working with customers who are affected by a defect found in a single content update for Windows hosts. The bug does not affect Mac and Linux-based systems.”

Sending updates on the support portal

George Kurtz said, “We are sending our customers to the support portal for the latest updates. We will continue to provide regular updates regarding this issue on our website.”

Communicate with CrowdStrike Representatives

CrowdStrike’s CEO further stated, “We encourage organizations to communicate with CrowdStrike representatives through official channels. Our team is committed to ensuring the security and stability of CrowdStrike customers.”

In its advisory, the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has also provided a 4-step manual solution to fix the CrowdStrike Windows 10 BSOD issue:-

1. Boot Windows into Safe Mode or WRE
2. Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\CrowdStrike
3. Find and delete the file that matches “C-00000291*.sys”

Boot up normally.
It is expected that after this temporary fix, CrowdStrike and Microsoft will release a proper fix soon.

What did Microsoft say?

Regarding the server down, Microsoft said, “We are aware of the problem. We have deployed several teams to resolve it. We have found out the cause. Only those users have been affected who use Microsoft Azure.”

Who are the customers of Microsoft Azure?

Walmart, Coca-Cola, HP are the customers of Microsoft Azure. Apart from this, energy company Chevron, industrial company Siemens, health company Advent Health, Children’s Mercy, American space agency NASA, media company The Weather Channel, Britain’s video channel Sky News are its customers.

You may have never heard of anti-virus firm CrowdStrike before, but what the company did with its virus scanner, Falcon, affected millions of computers running the Microsoft Windows operating system, Microsoft reported at around 5 a.m. Apple and Linux users, however, were not affected.

In India too, its biggest impact was seen at airports. Online services like airlines’ check-in were affected by this. Heavy crowds were seen at airports across the country including Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore. Due to lack of information, people waited for hours at the airport. This outage did not have much impact on any other service in the country.

During this time, a blue screen was appearing on laptops and computers, after which the system was shutting down automatically.

1- Cyber ​​security company ‘Crowdstrike’ said that the issue that has caused major disruptions is not a cyber attack. A Microsoft spokesperson said – We hope the problem will be resolved soon. 

2- Microsoft, CrowdStrike and Windows are the most talked about issues on the social media platform ‘X’, i.e. they are trending. Due to this glitch, users are seeing ‘Blue Screen of Death’ messages on the screens of computers and laptops and reports of disruption in international airlines, banks and media institutions are coming from all over the world.

3- In India, many airlines including Indigo-SpiceJet had to cancel their flights. This affected services like flight booking and check-in. IndiGo posted on X and wrote… Our systems are currently affected by a Microsoft outage , which is also affecting other companies. During this time, bookings, check-in, access to your boarding pass and some flights may be affected. We appreciate your patience.

4- SpiceJet wrote on Twitter, “We are currently experiencing technical challenges which are impacting online services including booking, check-in and booking functionalities. As a result, we have activated manual check-in and boarding processes across airports.”

5- Technical glitches in the server have affected operations in the US, UK, Spain, India, Japan, Canada, Australia and many other countries.  Due to the failure in Crowdstrike  , work has been disrupted in many places including major banks, media houses, airlines. Globally, American Airlines, Delta Airlines, United Airlines and Allegiant Air canceled flights due to Microsoft cloud outage. 

6- The country’s major stock markets – NSE and BSE – were not affected by the global disruption in Microsoft services. An NSE spokesperson said in a statement that NSE (National Stock Exchange) and NCL (NSE Clearing Limited) are operating normally today. Apart from this, a BSE spokesperson said that the exchange has not been affected due to the problem in Microsoft. Operations are going on normally.

7- This problem affected the services of the London Stock Exchange and disrupted work. Sky News also stopped working and rail services were also affected. 

8- Information Technology and Electronics Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that his ministry is in touch with the giant technology company Microsoft regarding the global disruption in its services and no impact of this incident has been seen on the country’s NIC network. He said that a technical consultation is being issued in this regard by CERT-In, the nodal agency for cyber security.

9- The reason for the outage is said to be the new update of CrowdStrike (cybersecurity software firm), which has affected Windows-based desktops and laptops. At the same time, Microsoft, CrowdStrike and Windows are trending on X

10- In a statement from Microsoft, it has been said that it is investigating this problem. Due to which various Microsoft 365 apps and services are being affected. Our services are still being continuously improved.
