This formation—referred to as the ‘Monsoon Convergence Zone’—indicates that the southwest monsoon is currently highly active, creating conditions favorable for good rainfall across India. An alert for heavy rainfall has been issued for Delhi-NCR and surrounding areas for July 24, 2026. A weather system developing over the Bay of Bengal is currently driving monsoon activity, bringing significant rainfall to northwestern states.
Alerts for heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms have been issued for Friday across 14 states, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Gujarat. The IMD predicts rainfall in Delhi today, with a likelihood of rain in hilly states over the next 24 hours; residents in these regions are advised to exercise caution. Weather conditions are expected to shift as early as Friday morning.

The IMD has issued a heavy rain alert for the next two days. Significant rainfall is likely in Jammu & Kashmir, Nagaland, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Arunachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Meghalaya, and Tripura. Additionally, rainfall is expected in Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and West Bengal. In light of these warnings, the Meteorological Department has urged the public to take necessary precautions.
Rain Alert for UP, Bihar, and Other Regions
Heavy rainfall is expected on Friday across several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Arunachal Pradesh, and Meghalaya. According to the Meteorological Department, the monsoon remains active; with cloud cover extending from western India to the Himalayas, areas under this cloud cover are experiencing substantial rainfall. Gujarat has also witnessed heavy downpours over the past 24 hours. As a result, several districts in Gujarat are grappling with floods. The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall in 14 districts of Gujarat for Friday as well.
Weather Change in Delhi-NCR and Noida
The weather in Delhi-NCR is set to change on Friday. The skies will remain overcast, and there is a possibility of rain by evening. Noida is also likely to receive significant rainfall today. According to the Meteorological Department, there will be no major fluctuation in temperature, but residents will find relief from the sultry heat. The monsoon is fully active in neighboring states, influencing the weather in Delhi-NCR. Pleasant weather conditions are expected throughout the week, with skies remaining heavily clouded. However, the intensity of rainfall over the week will depend on changing weather patterns.
Heavy Rain in UP and Bihar
Uttar Pradesh and Bihar have been receiving good rainfall for the past 10 days. Consequently, ten rivers—including the Ganga and Yamuna—are flowing in spate. The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall across 54 districts of UP and 40 districts of Bihar on Friday. An ‘Orange Alert’ for heavy rain has been issued for several districts in Uttar Pradesh for the next two days.
Floods in Assam and Gujarat
Heavy rains have caused flooding in several districts of Gujarat and Assam. In South Gujarat, continuous rainfall over the last 24 hours has led to severe flooding in Umargam Taluka, which recorded 43 inches of rain in just 16 hours. The Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain alert for 11 districts in Gujarat for Friday. Meanwhile, Assam is also facing flood-like conditions due to heavy downpours; continuous rain since last night has caused waterlogging in several areas, including Guwahati.
