New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that a new weather system forming near the coasts of West Bengal and Bangladesh on Wednesday, August 12, is likely to intensify into a well-marked low-pressure area within the next 12 hours. It is then expected to strengthen further into a ‘depression’ over the subsequent 24 hours. Widespread monsoon rainfall is expected across India again on Thursday, August 13, as a new low-pressure system forming over the northern Bay of Bengal strengthens and moves inland. After intensifying, this system is projected to move northwestwards across West Bengal and adjacent Bangladesh, potentially bringing rain to the eastern and central parts of the country in the coming days. While the overall monsoon pattern will remain a key factor, weather conditions may vary across different regions of the country.

The weather in Delhi is likely to remain relatively calm and pleasant on Thursday, though there is a possibility of rain. The IMD forecasts partly cloudy skies with a chance of very light rain or drizzle at one or two places between morning and evening. The maximum temperature is expected to range between 33°C and 35°C, while the minimum temperature could be between 24°C and 26°C.

A low-pressure area has formed due to a cyclonic circulation over the northern Bay of Bengal. Additionally, the active monsoon trough is positioned south of its normal location, creating favorable conditions for rainfall across several parts of the country today.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall—with extremely heavy rain at isolated places—is likely over Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha through Thursday, August 13. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also expected at isolated locations in Chhattisgarh. Heavy rainfall is also expected in Jharkhand, eastern Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, parts of Maharashtra, western Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir, Kerala, Karnataka, Konkan and Goa, parts of the Northeast, and Tamil Nadu, among other states.
The IMD stated that widespread rainfall will continue in the Western Himalayan region, while heavy rain is likely in eastern Rajasthan on August 13–14.
Heavy rain is also expected in western Madhya Pradesh on Thursday, while the impact of an active monsoon persists in parts of Gujarat and Maharashtra.
Heavy rainfall is also anticipated in some areas along the coasts of Karnataka and Kerala.
