Weather Update: While monsoon rains have made the weather pleasant in several states, including Delhi, other regions—such as Assam, Gujarat, and Odisha—are facing flood-like conditions, forcing people to seek shelter in safer areas. According to the Meteorological Department, the monsoon will remain active across large parts of India on Thursday, August 6. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall in the northern, eastern, central, and southern parts of the country.
Rainfall expected in these regions
The Meteorological Department stated that heavy rain is expected today in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, and Uttarakhand, while widespread rainfall is anticipated in both eastern and western Uttar Pradesh. Heavy rain is forecast for isolated places in Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi on August 6. Heavy rainfall is also expected in Uttarakhand. Additionally, heavy rain may occur at isolated locations in Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim on August 6.
The department has also issued warnings for heavy rainfall at isolated places across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands; Assam and Meghalaya; Bihar; Chhattisgarh; Coastal Karnataka; East Rajasthan; Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi; Himachal Pradesh; Jharkhand; Madhya Pradesh; Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura; South Interior Karnataka; Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim; Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal; and Uttar Pradesh.
Strong winds expected here
Along with the rain, warnings have been issued for lightning and thunderstorms. Winds blowing at speeds of 40–50 km/h are likely at isolated places in Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Mahe, Lakshadweep, South Interior Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. Wind speeds of 30–40 km/h are expected in Bihar, Coastal Karnataka, Jammu & Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, North Interior Karnataka, Odisha, Telangana, and West Bengal and Sikkim. The Meteorological Department has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Chhattisgarh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand.
Weather forecast for Delhi today
The sky over Delhi will remain cloudy today. From morning through afternoon, light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, is likely in various parts of the city. Thunderstorms and lightning, along with light rain, are also expected in several areas during the evening and night. Maximum and minimum temperatures in Delhi are likely to range between 31°C–33°C and 22°C–24°C, respectively.
