Weather Update Today: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall alert for 15 states across the country for August 3. The monsoon is fully active from North India to South India. According to the weather department, heavy rain is expected across the region stretching from Delhi-NCR to Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Rainfall is also predicted for Kerala, Karnataka, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and West Bengal. Monsoon activity will remain vigorous across several states in Northeast and North India. The monsoon is also active in the hilly states; heavy rain is likely in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir over the next 24 hours. Continuous rainfall in several states has disrupted normal life, and the weather department has advised people to exercise caution.
Rainfall due to low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal
The IMD states that continuous rainfall is occurring due to a low-pressure system formed over the Bay of Bengal. This active weather system is bringing significant rainfall to northwestern states and Eastern India. The department has forecast heavy rain for the entire coming week, which is helping to meet the country’s monsoon rainfall quota. Heavy downpours have already begun in several parts of the country since Monday morning.
Heavy rain alert for these states
The states for which the IMD has issued alerts ranging from light to heavy rainfall include Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana, Punjab, Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. Heavy rain is highly likely in these areas over the next few hours. The weather department has advised people to take precautions, particularly in hilly states, where there is a risk of landslides during the rainfall.
Monsoon active in UP and Bihar
The monsoon is currently fully active in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The monsoon is fully active in Uttar Pradesh from August 3 to 8, with moderate to heavy rainfall continuing across most parts of the state. Districts such as Lucknow, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Balrampur, Shravasti, Siddharthnagar, and Maharajganj may witness heavy downpours accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds. Similarly, monsoon activity is also active in Bihar; widespread rainfall is expected between August 3 and 5. Warnings for heavy rain at several locations have been issued for August 4 and 5, with strong winds reaching speeds of 30 to 50 kmph likely during this period.
Weather Outlook for the Week
Rainfall activity is set to intensify in the northeastern states, with heavy to very heavy rain likely at several places between August 3 and 7.
Rainfall is also expected to increase over the next 4–5 days in areas adjacent to the foothills of the central and eastern Himalayas.
While rainfall will decrease in peninsular India, coastal and south-interior Karnataka may experience heavy to very heavy rain in isolated areas over the next two days.
There is a risk of landslides in the hilly states of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir following continuous heavy rainfall.
According to the Meteorological Department, the monsoon will remain active in the northwestern states between August 3 and 7, bringing heavy rainfall.
Weather Shift in Delhi-NCR
The weather has changed in Delhi-NCR as well. Good rainfall at the start of August has provided relief from the humid heat. The Meteorological Department has forecast continued rainfall for the coming days. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 33°C, and the minimum around 24°C. Intermittent light rain may continue alongside cloudy skies throughout the day. Some areas of Delhi-NCR also received rainfall last night. According to the Meteorological Department, the entire coming week will be significant for Delhi-NCR in terms of weather conditions. Rain in Hill States

Heavy rainfall is expected in districts such as Chamba, Hamirpur, Kangra, Kinnaur, Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur, and Solan in Himachal Pradesh. The weather department has also issued a landslide warning for the region, advising people to exercise caution. Meanwhile, Uttarakhand is also likely to receive significant rainfall on Monday; heavy rain is expected in districts including Dehradun, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Tehri, Nainital, Bageshwar, Champawat, and Haldwani. According to the IMD, the risk of landslides and road blockages has increased due to heavy rains in the mountainous areas bordering Uttarakhand and Jammu & Kashmir, prompting an advisory for people to remain alert.
Heavy Rain in Gujarat and Kerala
Gujarat and Kerala have also been experiencing heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours. Gujarat is facing flood-like conditions due to the rain; relief and rescue operations are underway in several districts, including Surat and Navsari, which are grappling with flood-like situations. Similarly, heavy rains have led to flooding in several districts of Kerala. Flood conditions prevail in the Kuttanad and Upper Kuttanad areas of Alappuzha district due to intense rainfall. The weather department has forecast significant rainfall in the region over the next 24 hours.
