Weather Update: Weather patterns to shift in early October—rain in some areas, snowfall in others; clouds to bring rain to several states, including Chhattisgarh.

Weather Update: October is set to begin with varied weather conditions across different parts of the country. While dry weather is expected in many regions, a spell of rain will continue in some states. Light snowfall may also occur in the higher reaches of hilly areas.

According to the Meteorological Department, the monsoon is likely to withdraw from Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and the remaining parts of Uttar Pradesh over the next 2 to 3 days. However, there are currently no signs of monsoon withdrawal in Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, and Chhattisgarh.

Likelihood of Snowfall in Hilly Areas

Conditions favorable for light snowfall may develop on October 1 in the high-altitude areas of Uttarakhand, particularly around Chamoli and Hemkund Sahib. Additionally, light snowfall has already been recorded in the higher reaches of Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti, and Kullu.

Rain in Chhattisgarh from October 2 to 6

Rain is expected in Eastern Madhya Pradesh from October 1 to 3 and in Vidarbha from October 5 to 6. Chhattisgarh may witness rainfall at several locations between October 2 and 6.

Regarding Eastern India, rain is likely in West Bengal, Odisha, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim from October 1 to 6. Rainfall may occur in Jharkhand on October 1 and 2, and in Bihar between October 3 and 6.

Rain Forecast for Other States

Rainy spells are likely to continue in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as well as the Northeastern states. Rainfall is expected in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya from October 1 to 6. During this period, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura may also experience rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in some areas.

Heavy rainfall is likely in Arunachal Pradesh on October 3 and 4. Meanwhile, heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on October 1.

Rainfall from Maharashtra to South India

Rain is expected in Konkan & Goa and Madhya Maharashtra between October 1 and 6. Rainfall may occur at isolated places in the Gujarat region, Saurashtra, and Kutch on October 1.

In South India, rainfall is likely over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Lakshadweep, North Interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema, and the Tamil Nadu-Puducherry-Karaikal region from October 1 to 6. Rain may occur in Telangana on October 2 and 3, and in Kerala and Coastal Karnataka between October 3 and 6.

Rain is expected in Kerala and Mahe from October 1 to 6. Meanwhile, widespread rainfall is likely in Coastal Karnataka on October 1 and 2, and in South Interior Karnataka on October 1.

Alert for thunderstorms and lightning

On October 1, Odisha may witness thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph at isolated places; wind gusts could reach up to 50 kmph.

Thunderstorms and lightning, accompanied by heavy rain at isolated places, are also forecast for Kerala, Coastal Karnataka, South Interior Karnataka, and the Tamil Nadu-Puducherry-Karaikal region.
