G-7 Summit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni during the G-7 Summit and discussed defence and security cooperation between the two countries.

G-7 Summit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni during the G-7 summit and discussed defense and security cooperation between the two countries. The Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement that the two leaders discussed bilateral defense and security cooperation and hoped to further enhance defense industrial cooperation. They welcomed the visit of the Italian aircraft carrier ITS Cavour and the training ship ITS Vespucci to India later this year. Apart from this, Prime Minister Modi thanked the Italian government for recognizing the contribution of the Indian Army in the Italian campaign during the Second World War. PM Modi’s Italy tour has ended and he has left for India.

1- During the talks between the two leaders, it was agreed that India would work towards improving the Yashwant Ghadge Memorial in Montone, Italy.
2- Prime Minister Modi and his Italian counterpart Giorgio Meloni expressed satisfaction at the regular high-level political dialogue and reviewed the progress of the India-Italy Strategic Partnership.
3- Expressing happiness over the growing trade and economic cooperation, he called for expanding commercial ties in clean energy, manufacturing, space, science and technology, telecommunications, AI and critical minerals to create resilient supply chains, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.
4- The two leaders welcomed the recent Memorandum of Understanding on Industrial Property Rights (IPR), which provides a framework for cooperation on patents, designs and trademarks.
5- During the meeting, the two leaders welcomed the signing of the Letter of Intent for Cooperation in Energy Transition, which will promote bilateral cooperation in clean and green energy. This was addressed under the ‘Global Biofuels Alliance’.
6- The Ministry of External Affairs said that the two leaders expressed satisfaction over the new Executive Programme of Cooperation for 2025-27 to promote joint research and development in science and technology.
7- We discussed ways to further strengthen India-Italy relations in commerce, energy, defence, telecommunications and other sectors, PM Modi later wrote on X.
8- PM Modi said that our countries will work together in future areas like biofuels, food processing and critical minerals.
9- Prime Minister Meloni also congratulated the Prime Minister for his third consecutive term. The G-7 Summit is being held on 13-15 June in the Apulia region of Italy, where India has been invited as an ‘outreach country’ to the Summit.
10- It has the participation of seven member countries, the US, Britain, Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan and France as well as the European Union.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pope Francis on Friday had a warm meeting at the ‘outreach session’ of the G7 summit in Apulia, southern Italy. They discussed important global issues with other world leaders.

PM Modi was seen having a light-hearted conversation with the 87-year-old Pope. In his address at the ‘Outreach Session’ on Artificial Intelligence (AI), Energy, Africa and the Mediterranean, the Pope said, “It is up to each of us to make better use of AI.”
