The report claims that in Indonesia’s poor communities, women charge a hefty price from men to become ‘bride for some time’. In fact, tourists who come to Indonesia are looking for temporary wives and this is why the market for pleasure marriage has increased here in recent times.
The report said that some people are supporting it and saying that these markets have developed as a means for poor women to support their families amid economic difficulties. This practice is especially prevalent in the Puncak area, which is a popular tourist destination. Puncak is known for its natural beauty.
Professor Yayan Sopyan of Syarif Hidayatullah Islamic State University in Jakarta said about pleasure marriage, “We are seeing that this practice is expanding now. Tourism fulfills this economic need. There is no right or wrong in this.”
However, in a country like Indonesia, pleasure marriage has given rise to moral concerns. Many people are criticizing it and saying that Indonesia’s culture has been spoiled due to tourists coming from outside countries.
