Three police personnel were killed and 34 people injured in two separate terror attacks in Pakistan’s volatile Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Wednesday. According to officials, one attack targeted a police convoy in Lower Dir district, while the other targeted the Miryan police station in Bannu district. Following both incidents, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation. The first incident occurred in Lower Dir district, where terrorists attacked a police convoy using hand grenades and automatic weapons.
Terrorists Hurl Hand Grenades at Police Convoy
According to the police, the attack took place near Ladam Top in the Haider area as the convoy was passing through. Terrorists first hurled hand grenades at the convoy and then opened heavy fire. Three police personnel died on the spot, while 19 others were injured. The attackers also set fire to two police vehicles during the assault. The injured were immediately rushed to the hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. Police stated that further details regarding the incident would be shared once the situation becomes clear. Meanwhile, security forces have cordoned off the area and initiated a search operation to locate the attackers.
Explosives-Laden Vehicle Destroyed in Retaliatory Action
The second incident took place at the Miryan police station in Bannu district, where security forces timely thwarted a major suicide attack. According to officials, terrorists were attempting to ram an explosives-laden vehicle into the police station. Preliminary reports indicate that police personnel and security forces responded promptly by opening fire, destroying the explosives-laden vehicle before it could reach the station. Subsequently, the terrorists attempted to storm the police station, but security forces repelled the attack. Four terrorists were killed during the ensuing encounter. According to reports, 15 police personnel were injured in the attack, with 10 reported to be in critical condition. The critically injured officers have been sent to Peshawar for advanced medical treatment. Bannu District Police Officer Captain Mohammad Furqan Bilal confirmed the incident and stated that the situation is being assessed. He added that detailed information regarding the casualties and the injured would be released later. Following the incident, a large contingent of police and other law enforcement agencies arrived at the scene. The entire area has been cordoned off, and a search operation is currently underway.
Suicide attack also occurred in Bannu in April
Officials stated that investigations into both incidents are ongoing. Detailed information regarding casualties, injuries, damage, and other aspects will be released following verification. It is worth noting that a suicide car-bomb attack had also taken place at the Domel police station in Bannu in April of this year. At least five civilians were killed and 13 others injured in that attack; one police officer was among the injured.
