India Post has officially released the India Post GDS 3rd Merit List 2026 for Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) recruitment. Candidates who applied for the recruitment drive can now check their selection status through the state-wise PDF merit lists available on the official website.
The third merit list was released on May 11, 2026, and a total of 6,690 candidates have been provisionally shortlisted across various postal circles. Candidates can follow these steps to check and download the merit list:
- Visit the official India Post GDS website
- Click on the “Shortlisted Candidates: Schedule-1, January 2026” link on the homepage
- Select the respective postal circle or state
- Download the PDF merit list
- Search for the registration number in the file
- Candidates whose registration numbers appear in the list are shortlisted for the next stage

According to the released data, the highest number of shortlisted candidates are from Maharashtra, followed by Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

- Uttar Pradesh: 809 candidates
- Bihar: 761 candidates
- Madhya Pradesh: 543 candidates
- North East Circle: 534 candidates
- Gujarat: 459 candidates
- Chhattisgarh: 454 candidates
- Andhra Pradesh: 342 candidates
What Happens After The Merit List?
Candidates shortlisted in the third merit list will be called for document verification. Applicants must carry original educational certificates, identity proof, caste certificates (if applicable), and other required documents during the verification process. After successful verification, candidates will also undergo a medical examination. Final appointments will be issued only after both stages are cleared successfully.
The India Post GDS recruitment drive is being conducted to fill 28,636 vacancies for Branch Postmaster (BPM) and Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) posts across the country. The selection process has been carried out purely on the basis of Class 10 marks, and no written examination was conducted for the recruitment.
