Prime Minister Modi has significantly reduced the size of his official convoy during recent domestic travel, with visuals showing him moving with just 2 vehicles, a move that has gone viral on social media.
According to reports, the Prime Minister was seen travelling in Delhi with a minimal convoy consisting of only two cars, instead of the usual large security formation that typically includes multiple escort vehicles, jammer units, and support staff vehicles.
Normally, the Prime Minister’s convoy includes around 12–15 vehicles such as armoured cars, escort SUVs, security jammers, and an ambulance, all operating under Special Protection Group (SPG) protocols. However, the latest changes suggest a streamlined arrangement while maintaining full security compliance.
Sources said the reduction in convoy size has been implemented during recent domestic visits, including trips to Gujarat, Assam, and Hyderabad, as part of a broader push toward fuel conservation and sustainable practices.
The move comes amid renewed calls for austerity and reduced fuel consumption, with Prime Minister Modi recently urging citizens to cut down on petrol and diesel usage as well as non-essential resource consumption.
Officials clarified that while the convoy size has been reduced, all mandatory SPG security protocols under the Blue Book guidelines remain fully intact, and there has been no compromise on safety arrangements.
