India has pledged Nepali Rupees 560.2 million to construct 14 earthquake-resilient schools across eight earthquake-affected districts of Nepal, reaffirming its continued commitment to the Himalayan nation’s post-disaster reconstruction and development efforts.
According to a statement from the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu, agreements for the project were signed under the Central Level Project Implementation Unit–Education of Nepal’s Ministry of Education and Sports.
The schools will be built across Gorkha, Nuwakot, Dhading, Dolakha, Kathmandu, Kavrepalanchowk, Ramechhap, and Sindhupalchok—districts that were severely impacted by the devastating 2015 earthquake that killed nearly 9,000 people.
The upcoming infrastructure will be constructed in line with Nepal’s earthquake-resilient building norms and will include academic blocks, classrooms equipped with furniture, and separate sanitation facilities for boys and girls.
This initiative is part of India’s broader post-earthquake reconstruction support in Nepal. Earlier projects include the construction of 70 schools across eight districts and the Tribhuvan University Central Library in Kathmandu, which were handed over in January 2024.
Officials said India remains committed to supporting Nepal’s socio-economic development through continued collaboration in rebuilding critical infrastructure and strengthening disaster resilience.
