Israel rejects US-Iran Peace Deal, says it will not be bound by agreement

Israel has strongly opposed the US-Iran peace agreement announced by President Donald Trump, stating that the deal will not bind Israel and does not address its core security concerns.

Israeli leaders, including ministers from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s coalition government, said the agreement does not ensure Israel’s security and will not limit its military actions in the region.

National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir said Israel is not a party to the agreement and described it as not applicable to the country’s security policy. He added that Israel will continue its military objectives independently.

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich also criticised the deal, calling it “bad for Israel and the free world,” and said Israel must continue its campaign against Iran’s influence in the region.

Defence Minister Yoav Katz reiterated Israel’s position that it will not withdraw from strategic areas in Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza, stressing that maintaining security zones is essential for national defence.

Opposition leaders also expressed concern over the agreement, saying it weakens Israel’s strategic position and undermines military gains made in recent conflicts.

Yair Golan, leader of the Israeli Democratic Party, said the deal represents a setback for Israel’s foreign and security policy, while opposition leader Yair Lapid termed it a major diplomatic failure if reports about the agreement are accurate.

The US-Iran agreement, aimed at ending hostilities and stabilising the Strait of Hormuz, has been welcomed by several global actors, but Israel maintains that key issues remain unresolved, particularly regarding Iran’s nuclear programme and regional proxy groups.

Israeli officials have also raised concerns about sanctions relief and frozen asset releases under the proposed framework, arguing it could strengthen Iran’s regional influence.

The disagreement highlights growing tensions between Israel and the United States over the handling of the Iran conflict, even as broader international efforts continue to push for de-escalation in West Asia.
