Delhi University climbs in QS Global Rankings

The University of Delhi has improved its position in the QS World University Rankings 2027. The university has moved up six places to secure the 322nd rank globally, reinforcing its status as one of India’s leading higher education institutions.

The latest rankings place Delhi University at 322, compared to 328 in the 2026 edition. The university has also retained its position as the top-ranked Indian university and remains seventh overall among all higher education institutions in the country.

According to the QS World University Rankings 2027, a total of 8,808 institutions worldwide were assessed, while 1,504 universities from 106 countries and territories secured places in the final rankings. Among the 52 Indian institutions featured, Delhi University continued to strengthen its standing at both the national and international levels.

The university’s overall score improved from 42.6 in the previous edition to 43.8 this year, reflecting progress across several performance indicators.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh said the improvement in rankings was the result of the collective efforts of faculty members, students, researchers, staff, alumni, and other stakeholders.

He said the university’s continued rise in global rankings reflects the strength of its academic ecosystem and its commitment to excellence in teaching, research, innovation, sustainability, and social engagement.

One of the most significant gains was recorded in the Citations per Faculty indicator, where Delhi University improved from 403rd position to 318th globally, a jump of 85 places.

The improvement reflects increasing visibility, quality, and impact of research produced by the institution.

The university also registered notable progress in sustainability. Its ranking in this category improved from 297 to 240, gaining 57 places. The indicator measures institutional efforts related to environmental responsibility and social impact. Delhi University also improved its Employer Reputation ranking from 319 to 304, rising 15 places. The performance highlights growing recognition of its graduates among employers across different sectors and regions.

Among Indian institutions, the university recorded strong performances in several key categories. It ranked second in Employment Outcomes, reflecting the success of graduates in securing professional opportunities. The institution also climbed to fourth place nationally in Sustainability, improving from sixth position in the previous rankings. It secured fourth position among Indian institutions in the International Research Network category, which evaluates global research collaborations and partnerships.

Delhi University retained its sixth position nationally in Academic Reputation, one of the most closely watched indicators in the QS rankings. The metric is based on the views of academics worldwide regarding the quality of teaching and research at institutions.

The latest rankings underscore Delhi University’s growing international presence and its ability to compete with leading institutions globally.

The improvement also highlights the university’s efforts to strengthen research output, sustainability initiatives, employability outcomes, and international academic engagement while maintaining its position among India’s top universities.
