Raipur: There is crucial information for students and their parents considering admission to private universities in Chhattisgarh for higher education. To prevent any fraud related to admissions, the Chhattisgarh Private Universities Regulatory Commission has issued essential guidelines in the interest of students. According to a circular issued by Ashok Agrawal, Secretary of the Commission, students must verify five key points before enrolling in any course or degree program to ensure their future security and avoid future complications. Students should pay special attention to these factors when seeking admission to private universities.
Verification of Notification under the Act
First, ensure that the university in question has been duly notified by the state government under the Chhattisgarh Private Universities (Establishment and Operation) Act, 2005.
Mandatory Publication in the Gazette
It is mandatory for the university’s statutes and ordinances to be published in the Chhattisgarh Government Gazette. According to the rules, a private university becomes eligible to admit students only after publication in the Gazette; admissions granted without this are considered illegal.
Restriction on Affiliation
All private universities in Chhattisgarh are unitary in nature. This means they are not permitted to grant affiliation to any college or institution outside their own campus. These institutions can conduct courses only within their main unit or their own academic departments.
UGC Approval for Courses
Any course or degree program being pursued must be approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC). Additionally, the course must be mentioned in the university’s ordinances published in the Gazette.
Strict Rules for PhD
The University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedures for Award of PhD Degree) Regulations, 2022, apply to PhD degrees. Students should verify that the university employs regular research supervisors who possess the requisite qualifications for the subject in question. Conducting research work under the supervision of external guides is strictly against UGC regulations. Appeal by the Secretary of the Regulatory Commission
The sole objective of this guideline, issued by the Commission’s Secretary in the public interest, is to safeguard the future of students. Instead of being swayed by any institution or misled by deceptive advertisements, students and parents should visit the Commission’s official website (www.purc.cgstate.gov.in) or verify the regulations with the Commission’s office; they should proceed with admission only after being fully satisfied.
