IMD Rain Alert: Heavy rainfall is expected across North India—including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan—over the coming week. After a long wait of ten days, clouds have covered the entire NCR region, including Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rainfall alert for North India spanning six to seven days, from July 21 to July 26–27. The monsoon has fully enveloped the region; dense cloud cover has been accompanied by intermittent rain since Tuesday morning. This spell of rain began following the northward shift of the monsoon trough.
Heavy Rain Alert for Delhi-NCR
The Meteorological Department has forecast continuous rainfall across the NCR region—including Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram—from July 21 to July 26. The IMD has issued an alert for Delhi-NCR. Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and showers is expected on July 21 and 22, while heavy rainfall is likely from July 23 to July 25.
Red Alert for Uttar Pradesh
Rainy weather is expected in Uttar Pradesh—specifically the Purvanchal, Western UP, and Awadh regions—from July 21 to July 26. Heavy rainfall is forecast for Western UP (including Noida, Ghaziabad, Bulandshahr, Hapur, Baghpat, and Muzaffarnagar) from July 21 to July 24, with a warning for heavy rain continuing between July 23 and July 25. An alert has been issued for rain in Purvanchal from July 21 to July 23, followed by light rain from July 24 to July 26. A ‘Red Alert’ for extremely heavy rainfall has been issued for areas including Balrampur, Shravasti, Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, Kasganj, Etah, Rampur, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, Sambhal, and Badaun.
Orange Alert for Purvanchal
There is a likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the Purvanchal region. Rain alerts have also been issued for Ghazipur, Azamgarh, Mau, Ballia, Deoria, Sant Kabir Nagar, Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Siddharthnagar, Gonda, Sitapur, Hardoi, Farrukhabad, Kannauj, Kanpur Dehat, Barabanki, Ayodhya, Ambedkar Nagar, Saharanpur, Hathras, Agra, Firozabad, Mainpuri, Etawah, Auraiya, Bijnor, Amroha, Moradabad, and Jalaun.
Areas under Yellow Alert
Heavy rainfall is likely in Prayagraj, Pratapgarh, Sonbhadra, Mirzapur, Chandauli, Varanasi, Sant Ravidas Nagar, Jaunpur, Kanpur Nagar, Unnao, Lucknow, Raebareli, Amethi, Sultanpur, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Mathura, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Jhansi, and Lalitpur.
Rain in Punjab and Haryana
Monsoon activity will continue for six days across Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh. Heavy monsoon rains are expected from July 21 to July 23. An alert for heavy rain accompanied by strong winds (30–50 km/h) has been issued for Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh for July 22–23, while light to moderate rainfall is expected between July 24 and July 26.
Rain Alert for Rajasthan
Weather conditions in Eastern Rajasthan are set to change due to rainfall between July 21 and July 26. Moderate to heavy rain is likely in the Jaipur, Bharatpur, and Kota regions from July 23 to July 26. Western Rajasthan will experience light rain from July 21 to July 23, with rainfall intensifying on July 24–25. Rain alerts have been issued for the Jodhpur division of Western Rajasthan, covering Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Balotra, Phalodi, Pali, Sirohi, and Jalore. Weather changes are also expected in Bikaner, Sri Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, Anupgarh, Nagaur, and Churu. A rain alert has been issued for the Jaipur and Shekhawati regions in eastern Rajasthan, specifically covering Jaipur, Jaipur Rural, Dausa, Kotputli-Behror, Alwar, Khairthal-Tijara, Sikar, Neem Ka Thana, and Jhunjhunu. Rain alerts are also in place for the Bharatpur division—including Bharatpur, Deeg, Dholpur, Karauli, Sawai Madhopur, and Gangapur City—as well as for Kota, Bundi, Baran, and Jhalawar. Similar weather conditions are expected in Udaipur, Chittorgarh, Rajsamand, Bhilwara, Salumbar, Banswara, Dungarpur, and Pratapgarh.
Red Alert for Himachal and Uttarakhand
The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh until July 26, while rain is also expected in the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh regions until July 24. Rainfall in Uttarakhand has impacted the Char Dham Yatra. Orange or red alerts for heavy to very heavy rainfall have been issued for several districts in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand between July 21 and 25; there is a risk of landslides and flash floods.
