Heavy rains are lashing regions from the south to the north. In Delhi-NCR, the weather has turned pleasant following heavy rainfall last night, while states including UP, Bihar, and Rajasthan are experiencing intense rain. Heavy rainfall has also commenced in southern states, including Gujarat, Assam, Kerala, and Telangana. Gujarat is facing flood-like conditions due to heavy rains, and an alert for further rainfall has been issued for Assam on Sunday; people are advised to exercise caution. The Meteorological Department has also issued ‘Red’ and ‘Orange’ alerts for hilly states.
Heavy Rain Alert for 12 States
The Meteorological Department has identified the states likely to be most affected by rainfall over the coming hours on August 2. Heavy downpours are expected in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi-NCR, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and West Bengal. ‘Red’ and ‘Orange’ alerts remain in effect for Gujarat and Assam today. According to the IMD, the monsoon is currently active due to a low-pressure area formed over the Bay of Bengal, driving activity in the northeastern states; simultaneous monsoon activity in South India is contributing to widespread heavy rainfall across the country.
Rain in Delhi-NCR
Weather conditions in Delhi-NCR have undergone a complete transformation. Heavy rain last night brought relief to residents troubled by humid heat, while cool morning breezes have made the weather delightful. The Meteorological Department forecasts cloudy skies and moderate to heavy showers throughout Sunday, which is expected to lead to a drop in temperature. According to the IMD, there is a strong likelihood of continued rainfall during the first week of August. Monsoon winds are currently directed towards the Delhi-NCR region.
Weather Forecast for the First Week of August
Good rainfall is expected in northwestern states between August 2 and 5.
There is good news for residents of UP and Bihar, as significant rainfall is anticipated between August 2 and 5.
A ‘Red Alert’ for rain will remain in effect for Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir during the first week of August.
Gujarat and Maharashtra are also likely to receive good rainfall between August 2 and 5.
The monsoon has reactivated in Kerala and Telangana, leading to heavy rainfall in these regions during the first week of August as well.
Rain and Storm Alert for UP and Bihar
The Meteorological Department has issued a ‘High Alert’ for heavy rain and storms in Uttar Pradesh. Significant rainfall is likely in Meerut, Agra, Mathura, Kanpur, Balrampur, Siddharthnagar, Maharajganj, Gorakhpur, Azamgarh, Deoria, Sonbhadra, Chandauli, Mau, Varanasi, Prayagraj, and Ayodhya. Meanwhile, a ‘Yellow Alert’ for rain and storms has been issued for Bihar. Good rainfall is expected in Gaya, Jehanabad, Patna, Saran, Siwan, Buxar, Vaishali, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Purnia, Kishanganj, Araria, Begusarai, and Bhagalpur. The monsoon currently appears active in both states.
Alert for Uttarakhand, Himachal, and Jammu & Kashmir
The monsoon remains fully active across the hilly states as well. A spell of heavy rainfall is set to continue in Uttarakhand over the next few days. A ‘Red Alert’ for rain has been issued for Sunday in Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Nainital, Chamoli, Almora, Rudraprayag, Udham Singh Nagar, Pauri Garhwal, and Champawat. Similarly, Himachal Pradesh is also experiencing good rainfall; alerts have been issued for Chamba, Kangra, Sirmaur, Hamirpur, Solan, Kullu, Bilaspur, and Shimla. Temperatures in Manali have dropped, with the maximum settling at 17°C and the minimum at 11°C, making the weather pleasant. However, tourists have been advised to exercise caution. Heavy rainfall is also expected in Jammu & Kashmir over the next 24 hours; alerts have been issued for Jammu, Poonch, Kulgam, Pulwama, Udhampur, Kathua, Anantnag, Kupwara, and Ganderbal.
Floods in Gujarat
Heavy rainfall continues in Gujarat, resulting in flood-like conditions. Surat, Morbi, and Bhavnagar are the worst-affected areas, with waterlogging reported in several parts of Surat city. Relief and rescue operations are underway, and people are being evacuated to safer locations. Several districts in the state are facing floods due to heavy rains this year. The Meteorological Department has forecast further heavy rainfall for the first week of August.
