An IndiGo flight bound for Singapore circled in the air for 2.5 hours; what happened to the 127 passengers?

An IndiGo flight bound for Singapore from Trichy, Tamil Nadu, developed a technical snag shortly after takeoff. There were 127 passengers on board. Prioritizing safety, the aircraft circled in the air for approximately two and a half hours before returning to Trichy International Airport around 9 PM. Arrangements have now been made for an alternative flight to transport the passengers to Singapore. Notably, this IndiGo flight had departed from Trichy Airport for Singapore at 6:40 PM; the technical issue was detected during the flight.

Continuous contact between pilot and officials

Following the technical glitch, constant communication was maintained between the pilot and airport officials, and preparations were initiated to bring the aircraft back safely. To this end, the aircraft’s fuel load was reduced to ensure its weight remained within safe limits for landing. After remaining airborne for about two and a half hours, the plane landed safely at Trichy International Airport around 9 PM. Airport Director Gopalakrishnan stated that an alternative flight has been arranged to take all 127 passengers to Singapore.

Fuel reduced before landing

The aircraft was not landed immediately after the technical snag was detected. While maintaining constant contact with airport officials, the plane circled for approximately two and a half hours. During this time, fuel was jettisoned or consumed to ensure a safe landing at the airport. Subsequently, the aircraft was brought back to Trichy Airport. The specific nature of the technical fault has not yet been disclosed. An alternative aircraft has been arranged to transport the passengers to their destination.

Technical snag also reported on Delhi-Mangaluru flight

It is worth noting that earlier on Thursday, another IndiGo flight bound for Mangaluru from Delhi was delayed by about three hours due to a technical snag. Flight 6E-6456 was scheduled to depart from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport at 5:30 PM. However, while the Airbus A320 was taxiing, the pilot detected a technical glitch. Prioritizing safety, the pilot decided to return the aircraft to the parking bay. According to a passenger, the flight was already delayed by about 20 minutes. The aircraft began taxiing after 5:50 PM, but after moving slowly for about 8–10 minutes, it came to a halt and returned to the bay.

Passengers took off in a replacement aircraft at night

The passenger stated that about five minutes later, the pilot announced that the aircraft was being brought back to the bay due to a technical issue. Once the aircraft returned to the bay, the door was opened. Engineers boarded the aircraft and conducted an inspection lasting approximately 5–10 minutes. Subsequently, the crew asked the passengers to disembark, informing them that an alternative aircraft was being arranged. According to the flight tracking website FlightRadar24, the flight took off for Mangaluru at 8:28 PM after the replacement aircraft was provided. Notably, an incident involving a lightning strike on an Agartala-bound IndiGo flight had previously been reported in June.
