Weather Update: Delhi-NCR residents, take note! Rain accompanied by storms is likely today; alerts issued for several states.

Weather Update: If you are planning to step out today, do check the weather forecast first. Weather conditions are set to deteriorate across 13 states on September 17. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms in several areas. Wind speeds could reach up to 70 km/h in some places; essentially, strong winds alongside the rain could create difficulties. The impact is likely to be most significant in Eastern India. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in parts of West Bengal and Odisha today, with the rainy spell likely to continue across several parts of Eastern India for the next three days.

Weather Conditions in UP, Bihar, and Delhi

In Uttar Pradesh, warnings for heavy rain and thunderstorms have been issued for several districts, including Gautam Buddha Nagar, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Agra, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Ayodhya, Gorakhpur, Mirzapur, and Sonbhadra. Wind speeds in some areas could reach up to 70 km/h.

Meanwhile, the weather is expected to be unsettled in Bihar as well. A ‘Yellow Alert’ for rain and strong winds has been issued for several districts, including Patna, Gaya, Buxar, Saran, Siwan, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Purnia, Kishanganj, and Bhagalpur.

Rain Expected in Delhi-NCR

Rain accompanied by strong winds blowing at speeds of 50 to 60 km/h is likely in Delhi today. This may also lead to a drop in temperature. Residents of Delhi-NCR have been advised to stay away from open areas and weak structures during the thunderstorms.

Challenges in Mountainous Regions

Weather conditions are also expected to worsen in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir. Alerts for heavy rain and strong winds have been issued for several districts. Continuous rainfall in these hilly regions poses a risk of landslides and road blockages.

Alerts for Other States

Warnings for rain and thunderstorms have also been issued for parts of Rajasthan, Punjab, Jharkhand, and Madhya Pradesh. Strong winds could lead to the risk of trees and electricity poles falling. Due to heavy rainfall, there is also a possibility of waterlogging in low-lying areas and a rise in river water levels.
