CG Crime: Major burglary at a jewelry shop; jewelry worth ₹8–10 lakh stolen; police nab two suspects.

CG CRIME: The police have solved a major theft case at a jewelry shop in the Ramnagar area under the Gudhiyari police station limits in the capital, Raipur. Two accused have been arrested for breaking into ‘Shri Lakshmi Vinayak and Sonam Jewelers’ and stealing gold and silver jewelry worth approximately ₹8 to ₹10 lakh. Instead of breaking the shop’s shutter or main lock, the accused executed the crime by breaching the rear wall.

According to reports, when Sunil Jain, the proprietor of the jewelry shop located on Karma Chowk Main Road, arrived to open the shop in the morning, he found the merchandise scattered and several pieces of jewelry missing from the showcases. He immediately informed the police. The Gudhiyari police arrived at the scene and conducted a thorough inspection.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the thieves had made off with gold jewelry weighing approximately two to two-and-a-half tolas and silver jewelry weighing around two kilograms. The estimated value of the stolen goods was placed between ₹8 and ₹10 lakh. Notably, the shop’s shutter and main lock remained undisturbed, leading the police to suspect that the accused had used an alternative route to enter the premises.

During the investigation, the police turned their attention to the vacant plot adjacent to the shop. Upon inspecting the rear wall, they discovered signs of a breach. It is suspected that the accused approached the rear wall from the vacant plot, broke through it to gain entry, and subsequently fled with the gold and silver jewelry.

Following the incident, the police began scrutinizing CCTV footage from the shop as well as the surrounding areas. A masked individual was spotted on the shop’s camera. Subsequently, the police examined CCTV footage from nearby shops, roads, and potential routes used by the accused. Based on the footage and other leads, the police successfully tracked down the accused. The police arrested two accused persons within approximately three days of the incident. Both are currently being interrogated, and efforts to recover the stolen jewelry are underway. The police are also investigating the accused’s past criminal records and their potential involvement in similar incidents.

Instead of breaking the shutter or the lock, the accused gained entry by breaching the rear wall of the shop. However, the police successfully tracked them down using leads obtained from CCTV footage and nearby cameras. The investigation into the recovery of the stolen goods and other aspects of the case is ongoing.
