Shubman Gill World Record: Gill’s major feat! Surpasses several batters, including Babar Azam, to become number one in this regard.

Shubman Gill World Record: Team India won the three-match ODI series against the West Indies 2-1. Indian captain Shubman Gill was in spectacular form with the bat throughout the series. Gill scored a magnificent century in the first ODI and created history by smashing a record-breaking double century in the second match. Although he was dismissed for just one run in the third ODI, his outstanding overall performance in the series earned him a major record.

Shubman Gill has now become the highest run-scorer by a captain in a three-match ODI series. In doing so, he broke the 15-year-old record held by former Zimbabwe captain Brendan Taylor.

Gill becomes No. 1 with 334 runs

Shubman Gill scored a total of 334 runs in the three-match ODI series against the West Indies. He maintained a batting average of 167 and played two innings featuring centuries. Gill set a new record, surpassing the 310 runs scored by Brendan Taylor in 2011.

Gill has also become the second captain to score over 300 runs in a three-match ODI series; the only other name on this list is Brendan Taylor.

Most runs by a captain in a three-match ODI series

Shubman Gill (India) – 334 runs vs West Indies, 2026

Brendan Taylor (Zimbabwe) – 310 runs vs New Zealand, 2011

Shai Hope (West Indies) – 278 runs vs India, 2026

Babar Azam (Pakistan) – 276 runs vs Australia, 2021

Khurram Khan (UAE) – 270 runs vs Afghanistan, 2014

With this record, Gill has surpassed several big names. Pakistan’s Babar Azam scored 276 runs in a three-match ODI series against Australia in 2021, whereas the West Indies’ Shai Hope scored 278 runs against India in a similar series.

Virat Kohli’s record also broken

Shubman Gill has also surpassed Virat Kohli in terms of the most runs scored by an Indian captain in a three-match ODI series. Kohli had scored 263 runs in a three-match ODI series against New Zealand in 2017; this record now belongs to Gill.

Made history by becoming ‘Player of the Series’

For his magnificent batting, Shubman Gill was named ‘Player of the Series’ in the ODI series against the West Indies. This marks the seventh ‘Player of the Series’ award of his ODI career.

With this achievement, Gill has equaled the tally of Sourav Ganguly, Yuvraj Singh, and MS Dhoni. Among Indian players, only Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli now stand ahead of Gill in terms of winning ‘Player of the Series’ awards in ODIs.
