Yoga during Periods: Often there is a question in the mind of women during periods whether to do gym or yoga during this period or not. Because, it is often advised to take rest during these days. It is advised to stop exercising for a few days without running around too much. But, should one really not exercise during this period?
Dr. Sabrina, Gynecologist (MBBS, MD) of Alam Hospital, Bariatu Road, Ranchi, said that there is a belief in our society that if you are on periods, you should take rest. Should stay in bed. One should not run around too much and should remain in complete rest phase. But, this notion is absolutely wrong.
How right is gym and yoga?
Dr. Sabrina told that during this time you can easily do gym and yoga, but if you go to gym and do yoga then you will have to take care of some things. For example, avoid lifting very heavy things like 10 and 20 kg in the gym. It would be better if you do cycling, cardio or stitching. Avoid weight lifting at this time. Because, this puts a burden on the body and uterus.
It was further told that do not do such asanas in yoga
Also while doing yoga you can easily do things like Surya Namaskar or Anulom Vilom. But, do not try positions like standing upside down. Because, this causes the blood flow to flow in the opposite direction, which can be harmful for you during periods. Apart from this, you can do easy asanas, there is no harm in it.
Just keep this in mind
Dr. Sabrina told that do gym or yoga during periods, just keep one thing in mind that do not lift anything too heavy and do not try any heavy or too much twisting yoga asana. Don’t do it. This puts pressure on the uterus, which can lead to problems like heavy bleeding.
